Being a cynical old bas**rd ……. I'm going to put my positive feelings and enthusiasm for the coming season on "pause" ……. just until we see;

a) If any other first team players are sold
b) If Tufty is given all the proceeds of the DB sale in addition to his existing budget.

UTB & FTP
Re b) has this ever happened before when key assets were sold? Why would it be any different this time?
Same owd United.

So you don't rate him as one of our best players? Wow. Thank god you're not in charge of the team!

Based on statistical output you could say the same of Coutts.

Based on what we saw from his illness ravaged first full season, I think we saw enough to know he'd have been if not the, one of our top players this coming season.

Whether you agree or not, Eddie Howe and Chris Coleman/Ryan Giggs certainly rare him.
There go the childish comments...

Think we can only rate him on potential - and yeah, he has the potential for a lot of things. However, we've seen him produce on only a few occasions though.

The long and short of it is that as soon as Brooks put the ball through Hunt's legs in the Derby he immediately elevated himself among large portions of the fan base. To me, the calls to bring him or (Duffy-esque) to change a game with little result proved that he's still learning his trade.

He's given us some great moments and we've been excited by the potential of an obviously gifted young player, but ultimately a £12m "risk on potential development" is nothing for a PL club.

David Brooks, at age 20, has scored 3 goals from 30 appearances.

Even Jordan Slew, aged 18 and in one of the worst United teams in living memory, managed to score 3 goals in 11 appearances. Jordan fucking Slew!

Some people need to get a fucking grip.

He hardly started any games too, mainly sub every week.
Fantastic talent, potential to go very far but no where near the finished article yet.
It’s a big gamble for Bournemouth , but a gamble they can afford.
On face value any Championship team seeking a squad player for 12 to 15 million is a fantastic deal.

The big big factor in this transfer is
.......how much money will Wilder get to improve the team?
It needs to be virtually all of it.......otherwise it’s a bad deal.

Some daft comments on here about Brooks not being one of our best players..let’s see who else we sell for 12 or so million quid!

Most of us feel gutted when our good young players leave. Fans of all clubs feel this way too (when their young stars are sold).

From the interview today with Wilder it sounds like he is getting most of this money. That makes the pill a little easier to swallow. The most gutting transfers are those where players are sold, and it disappears into the running of the club. Crucially, it also sounds like the transfer has happened with his blessing. Any sales over CW's head is the point when I'd start to worry, but this isnt the case (like it has been with managers/boards of the past).

Let's hope the money is used well and brings in some championship level quality and not punt signings from L1.

So Mr. McCabe can shoulder our season-on-season losses but then give all the proceeds of this sale away?

Thankfully, CW is a very good manager and Kevin McC knows this. Thankfully, whatever money is released from this sale will be in good hands. Imagine if CW got £10m and he blew it on Jordan Rhodes? And then let his only young talent (Hurst) go for nothing? This forum would be - rightly - in meltdown.

In my opinion yes. In yours I'm guessing no. Time will tell.
I'll have a friendly wager with you. If his next club pay more for him than what we sell him for, I'll show my arse on the City Hall steps and you do the same if he goes for less :)
I'm 52, it'd be better all round if the loser bought the winner a pint!

I actually wouldn't be surprised if CW hadn't accepted that Brookes would be leaving months ago, and that getting a good portion of any money received was what his summer stance/threat/negotiations were all about. Just a thought.

For once I believe that Wilder will ne able to spend the money. Transfer fees are usually in installments but I believe the first 12M is an upfront payment. This enables our manager to compete.

As much as I'd like him to stay:

I dont hold anything against the kid for wanting a move that'll make him a multi millionaire overnight.

And I also don't blame the club for taking the money if it goes some way to giving CW more wriggle room to strengthen and improve the first team.

We'll have lost a player of undoubted ability. In a perfect world, we would keep him but in the bigger picture, if you were to list players in order of importance, influence and 'not-for-sale-ness' then right now Brooks is probably behind Fleck, O'Connell, Clarke, Duffy and Coutts so I'm not having this as another case of United selling the family silver.

All of this. That's what I've been trying to articulate.

Tiny Bournemouth have a billionaire owner who spends, we have 2 millionaires who can't agree, big difference.
The one thing I can't get my head around.

Its Bournemouth ffs.

How the hell have a tiny club like that nabbed out best talent?
I wouldn't be half as gutted had he buggered off to Liverpool or somewheŕe like that.

As an older blade I've seen no end of sales of our best players, usually to clubs with more money than us. It frustrates me every time. However, you have to bear in mind that we do exactly the same thing to clubs in a less fortunate position than us. Tony Currie as an 18 year old from Watford for example.
I do think it's got worse though, due to the Premiership millions and I hate the fact that nowadays it's all about the money.

Tiny Bournemouth have a billionaire owner who can well afford to spend because tiny Bournemouth also have £111 million from last year's PL tv money. :(
(and will also get around the same again at the end of next season :( :()
Much bigger difference!
