.. Or it's still a failure of a season.

Great win today over the inbreds but we have been here before when beating Bristol, and pushing Spurs all the way. Only for then to put in some dire performances to drop out of automatic contention.

Nigel got his tactics right today, putting Basham back where he should be (only 2 months too late but he got there in the end) and persevering with Holt and Coutts when next to none of us had them in their preferred starting line up, and it was a comfortable victory and by all accounts a convincing performance.

Now it's no good doing that and then dropping a turd against Donny, which would put us back under pressure for next weeks tricky looking game at Oldham.

Celebrate the win, but keep feet on the floor, beat Donny draw at Oldham and we are almost there, then turn our minds to how to the get the better of Swindon and probably MKD in the play offs.

Nigel still has work to do to rescue the season.

it is seen as a failure getting 90 points and missing out to penalties in a play off despite not conceding a goal

You couldn't write that season could you, it was like a soap opera, I'm still not over it and don't think I ever will be! Add to the fact we didn't concede a single goal in any of the play off games and still didn't go up - crazy.

This is the year, we'll finally get some form of luck and go up through the play off's - think playing in the yellow away kit in the final may be the key! :)

we just have to hit the form what Cloughs been striving for , when it matters ,
its really what pisses me off about the play offs , we can get 15 points less this season and go up , to me if you finish 3rd you get no advantage

Theres no need for penalties for me if its level the highest placed league position should take it

Are you for real? It is what it is, you can't start dicking about saying that a side gets promoted after a play off final because they finished the higher out of the two. Its penalties, thats what it is. Fucking hell man you been on WWF's glue pot today?

Said something along those lines (minus the sarcasm about Basham) on Bladesmad.

Whilst we are down at this level success will only be judged on promotion, anything less is a failure, may sound harsh but being Sheffield United in the Third tier is harsh.

weve finished 3rd 3 times , and could have been prem regulars but for this stupid system

Perspective from you ?? Quality.

And with 93 goals weren't we the the third highest goal scorers in Europe.

The two games that now concern me are Donny and Bradford at home. The game against Donny is huge. I think if we can get a win on Tuesday night then this will boost our confidence for the Oldham and Yeovil games.

The play offs are something of a lottery in which everything can ride on the turn of a card but with the players we've got and the way they have played recently (some of the time) we are loading the dice in our favour for the next spin of that particular Wheel of Fortune.

Don't anyone get caught in the trap of games that concern us because that assumes there are games that don't. 6 games, 6 wins and see where we end up. Should be the aim, and then its probably play offs and we go for 3 wins. Do that and we are up. That should be the mentality and who we are playing is immaterial.

I do understand the remark about 3rd place going up, but the format of the playoff final was set years ago, it's swings and roundabouts, we would be sick if we finished 3rd and lost on penalties so would any team, but hey if we finished 6th and won on penalties I would be over the moon, regarding our Wembley losses I truly believe we can put them to rest, and like I said in another post spank those Wendy's home and away.

So do you want to answer any of the points made or are you just being a twat?
You've got that cornered every time we don't win ,the day I feel the need to answer any points from you without being a twat are a long way off . Much like yours to me last week. UTB.

It's always feels good when you show someone up for what he is, especially when he admits it. Another win for me there me thinks, time to move on to the next one.

Great idea in the world of fairness but it would lead to the highest placed team playing for a draw and would kill most play off finals.

We have in 2 of last three games. Not many people were saying that this time last week though.

You see in a way that's the problem 1 bad game out of a possible 3 in the playoffs and it's over. Too many inconsistent displays have left us where we are now and I worry that will still cost us promotion.

The return of players from injury is good timing ,our bench was very strong yesterday ,just Wallace J and a returning JCR away from full strength now aren't we ?

Agree with this, Kennedy staying fit is key for me. Lose him and we'll be struggling again at the back.

Not sure about JCR. He hasnt played in Notts County's last 4 matches
