It was in "the green zone" apparently, which is supposed to be from the armpit/shoulder to the bottom of the shirt sleeves but it would appear that has now been extended to the elbow.

The useless twat on VAR ought to fuck off back to the Aussie league. Jarrad Gillett he's called. Ironic really considering that awful co-commentator we had yesterday was babbling on about her gilet at one point.

VAR should and could be a wonderful tool. The problem is you have poor referees either not giving correct decisions or not giving any decision, instead relying on VAR.

The problem then is you have equally poor referees in Stockley Park who either don’t want to overturn the referees decision (if he’s even given one) or are too scared to overturn a decision especially if it goes against one of the big guns.

So we end up in an even worst position than before VAR. it was bad enough before when the referee got it wrong. But now they’re getting it wrong TWICE with zero common sense being used and causing anger on the pitch and the stands, if ever we get to go to a match again.

Has there been any sort of explanation why that wasn’t given yesterday because I haven’t seen it?

In the end it made no difference yesterday and no-one really cares, but if that had stopped us getting to Wembley in a semi-final we’d all care.

I havent seen what Chris Wilder has said about it but he should be kicking up a right stink about it. If we‘d lost it would be seen as sour grapes but we won so it would be the perfect time to make his feelings known.

Common sense also suggests that as the ball appeared to hit both arms, it’s handball and therefore a penalty, so ignoring both the law and common sense seems spectacularly misguided.

As for the flag raising/not raising, I think the idea and rule change (which was after the Shelvey goal against us last season) is to allow play to continue and sort the offside after. It does two things:-

a) Removes the possibility of a team stopping when the flag goes up, which is what we did v Newcastle, even though that was our fault for not playing to the whistle
b) Allows the offside decision to be made correctly in due course, not in haste and incorrectly.

In our case yesterday, imagine if offside had been given, but replays had shown that it wasn’t, we’d have been complaining that we’d been wrongly denied a goal scoring chance. I see the sense in the rule and not sure how it could be done different and better.

The problem with the offside change is what happens when the attacking side don't score but keep possession. This happened in the Wolves game (I think- I have tried to black most of this season out) where a blatant offside was ignored, but because Wolves messed up their scoring opportunity, the flag did not belatedly go up and Wolves has a sustained spell of possession in our final third. It should have been a free kick to us and a chance to relieve some pressure. I feel for the lino in this case as he was only following instructions, and probably thought, at what stage do I put my flag up.

I know we have had some VAR decisions for us this season which have been favourable (penalty against Fulham and against Liverpool to cite two) but this one must be held up as the most craven example of refereeing incompetence by that cock-hole on the pitch and his cohort of helmets sat behind monitors paid specifically to examine evidence and interpret the laws of the game to make the referees work more accurate.

If Var cant get the right decision for such an obvious hand ball then it's not fit for purpose.
We all know that Mason is a poor ref how he hangs on to being an elite ref ( ones who ref premiership matches) I dont know he constantly gets it wrong but no action is taken against him.
Sometime the ref doesn't have a good view of an incident ok that happens but ifMason didnt see this then it is time for him to go.
We have had a string of decisions go against us when hes the ref.
He was the ref who waved play on at the Emerates when Burke was pulled back.
Historically there are others.
