How wasn't this re-taken?

Only joking. You're right the standard of officials in this league is an absolute joke. It does want you to sometimes wish for VAR just to show that they are totally inadequate.

Am I right in thinking that this season must be one of the lowest number for penalties awarded for us.
Which is a little surprising when you consider the number of times we have players running with the ball in to the opposition's box.
Perhaps we are now due one at a time when we might really need it.
If Billy is sat on the bench who would take it?

We didn't get any penalties at all in 91-92 and only 2 the previous season.

We've had 2 this season haven't we? Missed by Norwood and Brewster.

because the player was removed by blue screen technology.

Other way round and we would have had to retake it.

The rule nowadays is if the transgressor “materially affects the outcome”. In practice, that means ‘did they touch the rebound?’.

Should have been retaken but one if the referee didn't spot the assistant should have. With the goaline tech the assistant doesn't need to be really looking at whether the ball has crossed the line like the good old days so can be looking for that. The referee is looking directly at him.

Can I just day well spotted, would have been interesting if Adam had parried it & 25 had put it in, would it have been ruled out, think we all know the answer.

I do remember the Bassett comment.

It does seem odd that for a team that has been second all season and has the joint second best goal difference that we’ve had so few penalties.

In some cases, I’d say our players are not encouraged to go down looking for stuff. I think at the weekend for example when Ndiaye was tussling with McGuinness, he probably has an opportunity to go down but chose not to.

Then you’ve got other instances where the ref is just poor. Take the Wigan game. There would be no other reason for Fleck to take a tumble other than someone grabbing him and knocking him off balance.

That’s just two instances in the last two home games.

We just get on with it, which I like. Credit to Hecky for that, but things like the Max Lowe high boot, we don’t get anything near that sort of level given in our favour.

I always remember Bassett's very typical comment about our lack of penalties in 1991-92, saying that one of our players would have to get gangbanged in the box for us to be awarded one.
I also recall him saying that there's more chance of getting raped by the pope than United getting a penalty!

The linesman on the SS side was absolutely fucking useless, a cardboard cutout with a flag on a string would have done a better job.

Dont think they are encouraged to make a decision now , dont think they dare

I get that in the PL where they know VAR is available, but ins and outs are fairly simple. He couldn't even manage that.

That's the problem, they changed their "role" from Linesman to Assistant referee a long time ago now to reflect their responsibilities. The FA/whoever is making it up as they go along seem to be satisfied with the whole refereeing team "failing" than an referee being overruled by his assistant when in fact it is good team play. When you have 2 sets of eyes missing it naturally people start looking at incompetence however a quick flag and consistency in decisions is all that fans and players surely want. I would rather the correct decision go for us/against us than constant uncertainty. He gave the penalty from a distance out so apparently no problems with his eye sight

It's mad to think it's been a year since we had a penalty (Blackpool at home missed) with the goals we scored for promotion aswell.

I could be wrong but it just feels like we rarely ever get given penalties and that goes back a good few seasons.
