I would have no qualms about Pembo getting the job, to be honest we would probably have done better this season if we had chopped £12m off the wage bill and just played the u18s.

I think people are getting a touch carried away with the youth team (I won't class it as success because they haven't actually won anything yet, though I wouldn't rule it out on tonight's performance). Yes it's a good achievement for them to reach the youth cup final, but to say we'd have been better playing them is plainly wrong. You could tell a difference watching tonight in the size of these kids and the grown ups. Also, their technique on the whole isn't as polished as the adult squad. That's not to say there aren't a few great prospects in there. Slew, Whitehouse and McFadzean all looked good, the latter's goal in particular was class.

Back to topic, on the subject of Pemberton for manager. I'd be extremely disappointed were he to get the job. We need somebody with experience to arrest our slide into obscurity.

Pembo should stick with the kids and keep bringing success to the academy. We should be picking a manager that he can gel with, who has similar footballing philosophies to maximise the potential out academy has and could have for a number of years

What does 'think I am chattin balls' mean :)

As on other threads, Pembo walked into a great set up with a decent crop of kids. Can't deny he's done well but a completely different ball game building a squad, dealing with the players already here and attempting to get promotion out of a difficult league.

Wouldn't be totally against it if true and I can see the benefits but don't agree with it. His right hand man would be vitally important.

Fleety, you're proper chattin balls there m8.

I've still got very conflicting views on this. On the one hand I watched the youngsters last night and thought he had them very well organised. They didnt let their heads go down when they went behind and tried to play good football at every opportunity. He seems to have them very well drilled and disciplined. It all suggests that Pembo has the man management skills required and would be a strong candidate to make the step up.....however.....

I am still of the mind that taking him out of the academy would prove to be counter productive. He's doing such a good job and last night confirmed that to me. Hopefully KM will make the correct decision on him either way but I still think its a very tough call. My instincts tell me he should be left in his current role.

Realistically though if you were denied a major promotion at work on the grounds of being too good at your considerably less well paid role, you would quickly start looking for alternative organisations to work for.

Everything the kids have achieved counts for nothing if their success doesnt transition into the first team.

Couldn't have put it better myself

Of course this is all dependent on whether he wants the job or not.

Exactly Highbury, we're presuming he wants the job. I seem to remember a caller on FH last week raised the point of him being head hunted etc and McCabe mentioned that his position / contract would be reviewed so doubtless his efforts will be rewarded this season.

Some people prefer coaching, some prefer working with kids than to have the day to day hassles of being a full-time manager.

I still think we need a "football thinking" manager such as Di Matteo to bridge the gap between the 1st XI and the Academy, Pembo must stay where he is IMO.
