It depends what the players want and what money is offered for them. If a team offers us £25mil for Hamer and he wants to go then sell him. It's a good deal for everyone.
I have no problem with selling players if the fee is a good deal. My problem is not reinvesting it into a replacement or other players.
We didn't do this under McCabe as the fees mysteriously disappeared. The Prince had no money so any fees got absorbed into the wage bill and general running.
Our new owners seem to be a different financial kettle of fish. If we sold Hamer for £25mil I'd like to think this would go straight back into recruitment.
I don't know why our fans still view selling players as negative and evil. Did Brighton get their knickers in a twist when they sold McAllister? Did Brentford fans get their knickers in a twist when they sold Toney? We are nothing different and while you're still in the Championship you're less likely to hold on to players who are good enough for the Premier League.
Just because we did something in the past doesn't mean we'll keep doing it now. Seriously, some of our fans are such hypocrites, accusing Wednesday of living in the past when a lot of our fans are equally guilty of this. "Don't sack Wilder, he was great for us in the past." "Don't sell players, we always do this and the club keeps the money."
Selling players is nothing new. It's been happening for decades. Where have you been?
