Paupers of the Premier League

We lack them really special players who get you off your seat ,them who you hate because they're so lazy you think they're not trying, but create things out of nothing. But int middle of winter at home we'd ,love to play against.

If we can stay in the league for the next 2 years, I then think we’ll see some serious investment

Big if. Last season we had an amazing defensive record that allowed us to nick games, we can't rely on that happening again this season especially with a new keeper. We simply have to spend in the final 3rd or prepare for the worst.

We haven't got a pot to piss in, Wilder has dragged us kicking and screaming from league one, if we can stay up this season and next then we maybe in a position to buy quality, but its not the end of the world if we go down it doesn't mean we're not still building.

This forum is cancerous right now.

We've played one league game. Nobody has got up to full fitness and the window isn't shut.

I'd wouldn't say cancerous, more concerned about where the goals are coming from. We don't want to be in trouble January and then have to gamble to get out of the trap.

Do good business now and the business in January is a bonus not a necesseity.

Paying McCabe off has done for our transfer kitty this season , if the money isn’t there ... it isn’t there
Kinell, Chingo is a name i haven't seen for a while!!!

But yeah, even though he's gone, he's still holding the club back. There's a very sour irony about that.

I'm concerned about that, but we've not really seen enough to judge how many goals we've got in us at the moment, and we don't yet know the final group who'll be responsible for getting us those goals.

Why, given the unknowns, are so many popping up as though it's a certainty that we're not going to score any goals and are going down?

If the window shuts and we've bought Dwight Gayle and by January we're at the foot of the table, I'll be as concerned as anyone could possibly be, but now isn't the time and it's a bit tiresome.

How is it tiresome? Football is 24 hours, we live and dream it it never gets tiresome, frustrating yes that's why we are bound to this site.

I mean the constant doom mongering is tiresome. I don't mind people voicing concerns, it's the tone. Like it's a foregone conclusion and we shouldn't bother.

Exactly that especially with everything that is going off at the moment relegation could set us back countless years and undo all the hard work of CWAK.

Investment this season is vital and I believe if we get it right this season and stay in the league comfortably we can plan ahead.

We did that in 1972............that went well 🤦🏻

No we didn't.

We built the south stand during the 1974-5 season. Our most successful season since 1961-2.

It was 1975-6 season when it all went pear shaped. The season that the south stand was opened.

The way I see it we got at a minimum £125m for last season and we will get more of the same this season so probably £250m, £50m paid to the biggest blade ever. Effectively out of a £200m pot we have spent a bit to bring the lane up to Premier league standards and we have spent unheard of transfer fees (in Sheffield at least) on players. Most of these players have been sound investments that are going to increase in value. Another chunk of cash is bringing the training ground up to a standard that is common in the premier league no fucking blow up tents in a park here and cash set aside for a Cat 1 academy long term. It might be steady as you go for a few years but we are building and improving the club in all areas, even if the unthinkable happened there are parachute payments and we have players who will bring in money if sold. We are no longer in a place where we have to give away our best players and plan staff redundancies. Relegation would be a step back but not one that would set the club back countless years.
I don't think we are anywhere near a relegation team and that sort of talk after one game is pathetic, really piss poor from our fans it is as if they can't wait to see us fail to justify their moaning. Go on the FB pages and some are openly slagging off Wilder I mean WTF understandable when we had Adkins in charge or even negative Nigel but fuck me it is one trait I can't stand about United fans the constant moaning and whinging after 4 years of probably the best football seen for 50 years, that and the need to have a scapegoat especially if they are our record signing. If I were a player I wouldn't want to bust a gut for a load of moaning cunts like our fans.

Probably shouldn't ever touch the stadium again then you're right

No, but firstly we should build a squad that is good enough to be established in the Premier League year after year and we should focus all of our resources on doing so.

Only then, once our annual Premier League revenue is assured, should we invest in the Stadium and general infrastructure. But it should not be done at the expense of building a successful playing squad, there’s no £100m p/a for having the best facilities in the EFL

So never then. It's never assured

I wonder if Man Utd fans are having a similar meltdown to our doom and gloom crew?

Well I think Everton are probably in a reasonably stable and safe position to invest in their new stadium, certainly better placed than we, currently are.

Anyway, I think you know what I meant otherwise you wouldn’t be allowed to be up at this time 😉

OK 74-5, whenever, all I know is, it was the start of many many years of decline and relegation, great view though 🙄

Some may say selling Jones & Birchenall after the successful season we had in 61/62 was also a pear shaped moment

How many clubs are making a profit in the championship? None! Its a recipe for disaster without the backing of wealthy owners or selling players developed through academy 's. the league would be broken.
Wages are the problem and until clubs wake up and live within there budgets clubs will go into administration and worse.
It's all due to the chase for the premiership.
I'm not a prophet of doom but unless wages are brought under control (that includes the premiership 500thousand pounds and more a week is obscene ).
Television is fuelling this without it the wage structure would kill the premier league.
Clubs chasing the big prizes have allowed the agents and players to become too powerful this cascades all the way down the divisions.Initiaĺy I thought Covid would reign things in a bit but it seems most teams are happy to keep the statis quo.The powers that be seem to have no idea how to control the haemoridging of money to players and agents.
They are like Lemmings running over a cliff.
Hopefully the Blades with Wilder and the prince pulling the strings we won't join them.
We have in the past and it takes us years to recover and it's getting harder each time.
You probably need to shout a bit louder mate. Mansoor and Abrahmovitch are not listening 🤷‍♂️

Yes its embarrassing ... just hope we can compete and survive

I see where you're coming from, but at the same time, disagree strongly.

We could spend every penny we earn from being in the PL for 5 years, and we wouldn't be guaranteed our place in the league. The majority of the clubs in the PL aren't established, they're just one poor season away from relegation, such is the competitiveness of the league.

Bournemouth are the team we should look at and learn from. Since their promotion to the PL, they have been planning to build new training facilities and move into a bigger ground: neither happened. They invested all their money into the playing squad, what good has it done them?

Wilder and Prince Abdullah both talk about leaving a legacy. Bringing our stadium up to a better standard, building modern training facilities and most importantly, gaining Cat 1 status for the academy is a legacy. Spending all our money on the 1st team is not.

Besides us who are the paupers of the premier league my thoughts are Burnley , West Brom and Brighton , thoughts
According to my Burnley/ManU supporting mate, who lives in Burnley, they've only got 16 players!

Yeah, I understand that and agree facilities do need to be updated and be fit for purpose, I suppose where our opinion differs is simply the timing of such developments 😉

I guess I'm trying to say if we don't start these projects now, we may never start.

We can never become an "established" Premier League club. There are only seven of those. Everybody else is one poor season away from relegation.

Recruitment and coaching are the only things that can make a difference, but recruitment doesn't mean spending all, or more, of the PL kitty on incoming transfers and - more importantly - player wages.

When we are relegated, and it's as inevitable as death and taxes, whether it's in 2021, 2022 or 2030, we will face the same dilemma as every other relegated side which is maximising the transfer value of our sought-after players and attempting to ship out those on long contracts.

Providing we haven't gambled all the money away on staying up we can be in a good position to regain our place, as the likes of Burnley and West Brom (consistently) have shown.
