On his display today he is incompetent the league is stuck with a ref who doesn't deserve his shirt .
Where can the hide in at VAR no done that it was a disaster.
Maybe make him a Lino then he only has to manage throw ins .

Bit of a harsh punishment for his v.a.r fuck up at villa to make him.ref our game today though

But he made us regret complaining about that ,that will teach us

He gave us two fouls towards the end too that simply were for nothing. Don't get me wrong, he was much worse in their favour and bought absolutely everything, but it he was just entirely incompetent and I can't believe he gets paid to be that bad.

The one against Fleck at the very end was as bad as it gets. The ball had broken nicely for didzy as well just to compound it.

Shit house , an Arsenal player hits the floor and he blows !
Gave us a few for nowt but far more to them !

I don't know.

Noone wants to be a ref. When we were at college (8 years ago so might have changed), the football team all got offered to do a ref course and we all said no, to me that says the only people who are refs are people who are getting turned away from those low levels. I imagine it's thee reason the refs are such a poor standard. Micheal Oliver's been a ref since he mid 20s ffs. I don't think any of the refs today have played football at any decent level

Personally think FIFA or the FA should do more to get former players to be refs,

Shocking refereeing performance. Way too many stoppages, a lot of them for absolutely nothing. Really surprised Wilder kept Fleck on, 'cause it looked like the ref was just waiting for an excuse to show him a second yellow. Should never be allowed to officiate a PL match again.

Can remember saying ‘that’s never been a foul’ when he gave a couple of soft ones to us, which shows just how bad he was

We can not have him anywhere near any of our future games.

Oddley, my one of my lads can play, been at SWFC academy, but has expressed a desire to ref at grassroots. I don’t think it’s the ability, it’s a genuine desire to understand the game from the other angle.....but the other angle might not be the right angle from every side.

Currently, I think you’re need to start reffing in your early teens to have any hope of becoming a Premier League referee.
Which makes it pretty difficult to gain experience of actually playing the game, particularly as an adult.

And it shows 😧

I've given you a like for the first and last sentence - totally agree.

I haven't a clue what you are talking about with the second sentence though? 🤔

There's been a concerted effort to get more people interested in becoming a referee, at junior league football level. The minimum age of qualification is 14. Both my kids were qualified football referees at 14 and a few of their friends did the same. Depending on what level of football they were refereeing, they usually got £20 for refereeing a game, which for young teenagers, isn't bad money for a couple of hours commitment. And they could end up refereeing 2 or 3 games some weekends.

But there are some downsides to it as well, the biggest one being the football club managers and the parents who come to watch the games.

The abuse that referees get, even at junior football level, is appalling. I'm not surprised there are a shortage of referees, because that's the main reason. So when I come on here and see all this negative stuff about yesterday's referee, Paul Tierney, I have a different perspective perhaps to some of you. I think he's a complete nobhead. :(

The thing is: In a normal game with a moderately competent ref you can live with this not given as an accidental collision. Yesterday, Tierney gave them about 13 free kicks for less contact, engineered minimal contact or no contact other than deliberate jumps.

In that context it becomes something you feel hard done by.
