Are we sure Chris isn’t just another Paul Lambert? Takes a team up 2 tiers, stagnates and drops back down again?

I certainly feel like he’s hit his ceiling. There’s nothing to suggest he’s done anything but.

He’s certainly been one of our most successful post war managers but are we sure he’s one of the finest managers in the country? I recall Paul Lambert winning back to back promotions with Norwich, I remember Phil Brown having a great season with Hull in the PL, Megson working miracles at West Brom, Pardew looking great at Reading, Adkins winning back to back promotions with Southampton, at the time they all looked great up and coming managers. It’s possible that Wilder is one of those, that in five years he’s trying to get Rotherham out of L1 and people are saying ‘remember when he was smashing it with the Blades, seems a long time ago now’. I’m not saying he is, just that it’s possible.

He needs to do the right thing & admit hes taken us as far as he can. Theres no shame in admitting that.

I genuinely hate that idiot.. He's only here on the wind up. I've put him on ignore now.. Never thought I'd use that feature of the forum, but he's the exception.

I remember when Keegan quit as England manager, I had massive respect for the man that day. He could've easily stuck around and took the money, but he held his hands up and admitted he wasn't good enough. It feels like Wilder should probably do the same.

I don't think any of those managers had a club in as bad a state as we were. A couple had some very good players already at the club. Phil Brown maybe but even then I think that was before the majority of championship owners were billionaires.

The poster believes Wilder has hit his ceiling, I disagree.

I think currently, without further investment the club has currently reached theirs.

Both financially, in terms of recruitment, which includes both playing staff, and non-playing staff. Specifically with regards to putting in place a proper modern recruitment/scouting system.
And in terms of time. Actually allowing the younger players like Brewster, Bogle, Berge etc, the time to progress to get to a level where they're capable of being able to compete in the Premier League.


What this season has shown is that the players who performed so well last season, unfortunately are not able to perform at this level over a prolonger period.
Both individually, and as a team.

Sides generally only add 1 or 2 players per window anyway, so i'm not sure how 1 or 2 additions which would have hit the ground running would have solved the current immediate problems anyway.
Wilder has clearly invested in youth, which in my opinion is smart given the age of the squad which got promotion.
These next 2 windows should see a focus on investment at center half, and more mobility/physicality in the middle of the pitch.
