It's the only type of corner he can deliver. It's the same for his 5-yard passes to feet on the halfway line - they are going to end up in the keepers hands. I've never seen him play, or researched anything about him, but I'm fairly sure this is accurate.
Nice you are confident about our newest player

Have faith :)

With Murphy, JCR, Flynn, Harris, Reed, Baxter, Scougall, potentially Brayford and now Coutts we have plenty of ability to create chances.

Not sure what you're saying their Daz.
So with those 9 do we need a goalie also? :)
Are we reverting to 0-9-1 or 1-9-0?

I've about Zero faith that Clough knows what he is doing.

We ship out a striker who never got a game; bring in another average Joe defender and a midfielder who can't even average anywhere near a couple of goals a season. Are these a serious addition to a side that can just about score one goal a game? We cry out for strikers and regular scoring midfielders.

Clough just baffles the hell out of me.
I thought Weir was mad when one nil down bringing all 11 back for an opposition corner but Clough is just as barking.
1 nil down at WHL we take off our main striker who has worried them all night with his pace and bring on a slow midfielder in Baxter.

:tumbleweed:Whilst it's nice to see business being done, I think a huge reality check is required by some of us, Coutts and Freeman aren't any better than we already have, back-up maybe? as for COG yes decent but he is not the answer to our poor scoring ratio this season, Brayford yes yes yes if we sign him that's a big positive, I think we have a good enough squad but are crying out for a striker that can A, bag 20+ a season, and , B be comfortable playing up top alone, or along side the likes of McNulty and can complement each other!!! hang on have I had too much vodka :D

Obviously it's a selection of those :D

As I said, we will be bringing in another striker. It was a strange decision to give Porter another contract based on what's happened with him but managers make mistakes, it's one of those things. He will bring in another striker before the window shuts.

We do have goalscoring midfielders in Murphy, Campbell-Ryce, Baxter. It's all about having different options and being able to change things with players who are equally as good. We are completely overloaded in midfield but you'd expect that to be sorted out too.

I didn't see anything wrong with that sub personally. McNulty was blowing out of his arse and wasn't holding the ball towards the end. When Baxter is up there he holds onto it and brings others into play. We looked more dangerous in the last few minutes when Baxter came on than we had for the 20 before that.

He does make some strange decisions, but you don't get a League One team to two semi-finals within a year if you don't know what you're doing.

We've got A and B,they call him McNulty,what we need is a C,D,E and F.

20 goals a season is ok and McNulty will get them, but we need them other 50 or 60 goals, that's where our problem lies.

Aha. Now we get it. Derby had an agreement whereby if they sold Freeman some of the fee would go to Forest. So let him go as a free makeweight when someone else leaves and the Rams' bitter rivals get nothing. Crafty, that, and precisely what Swansea did when selling Davies and Vorm to Tottenham, a deal the League are currently investigating.
And what Tottenham have done when selling Naughton to Swansea

Coutts has 7 goals in 182 English league games. Oh.

If he's another scrappy midget who can't shoot or pass, I really don't understand why we're bothering. Oh, he's 6 foot. A bit better then.

Oh well. Welcome and good luck to both.

He's not a scrappy midget mate,he's a good, strong, technical footballer who can also get stuck in,he's not going to go anywhere near to solving our main problem but he's a good aquisition nonetheless. We now need the strikers.

If he lets us play 4-4-2 I'm all for it.

Able backup at full back, and a midfielder who many supporters of his past clubs say is easily good enough for the league above, and there are still complaints?

I've been as critical as any this season, but our transfer dealings in the last 24hours are a huge statement of intent.

Clough knows we need a striker, and he's clearly got the cash to get one. We wouldn't be able to play him till next weekend anyway, so maybe we should give him some time to bring someone in.

Sorry if I'm repeating some posts but I'm underwhelmed by these two signings. More of the same - a full back who was barely good enough when he last played for us and another midfielder to join a long list of midfielders who could all interchange and nobody would notice. Our squad is over 30 or thereabouts. The defender is 5'10" and the midfielder is 6', not a lot of "beef" added. Between them they have scored about 10 goals in all their first team careers.

Then we plan to splash over a million on another full back. What's going on????? Flynn has been one of our standout players since he dropped back to right back. Now Freeman and Brayford and Alcock will play there before him and he won't make the position his own, he'll just join the pack of midfielders.

Should we just rename the club "Derby Old Boys" and play in black and white?

We need strikers!!! At least two - why? because we will get injuries and suspensions.

I'm bewildered to be honest.
Too true Woodward, but Derby have no spare forwards.

Freeman will have been brought in to cover left back primarily. We only have Harris.

As for the Brayford signing, we're clearly planning for when we get out of this league too. With Brayford, Basham and Harris as three of our back four that is one short of a solid Championship defence with an attacking threat in either full back position. Imagine if Maguire had stayed in that back line...

We will sign a striker before the window closes. If it is O'Grady or someone of a similar standard, great. You'd look at our squad then and say we look pretty formidable going into the latter stage of the season. Not many will want to play us in the play-offs with a team like that, regardless of our record. We're not cursed, we've just been shit and on a downer when we get there. I have a feeling it will be different this year,

We have played at Wembley without a proper striker too many times. If we don't sign two good strikers it would only take a single injury to put us in that position again, to say nothing about all the games to get us into the play-offs.

No, I don't think McNulty is good enough for a Play-Off Final yet. Maybe in a two but certainly not in a one up front.

There lies the key. We must be changing our main system to 4-4-2 so that will have consequences on such as Baxter and Scougall. Maybe Baxter will settle as one of the two up front, I hope so.

One things for certain we won't be short of choice for the 4 in midfield from: Coutts, Wallace K, Wallace J, Doyle, Cuvelier, Reed, Ryce, Murphy, Flynn, Davies, McGinn, Adams, Baxter, Scougall, Basham. It's getting ridiculous.

Strikers: Higdon, McNulty, say Adams. We need more than O'Grady surely even if he's available.

I dont see us changing from a midfield 5 and with that in mind, and the positions within that 5, I dont think much trimming is needed.

Let McGinn go and keep the rest. Bring in 1 or 2 strikers, let Higdon if we get 2. Happy days.

That said, as the eternal optimist, i still hope Higdon will come good.

Odds on Jamie Ward coming back in the summer? I think Sammon went out on loan recently though.
Do you think wards the answer, would he compliment COG/ McNulty, in much the same way as keegan/Toshack. Albeit in the 3rd tier, but it's all relative.

Two good pieces of business. Coutts is now our second best footballer after Brayford, let's hope he can rekindle his former form and stay fit. We were desperately lacking cover for Harris so Freeman is a perfect player to bring in.

We just need that striker

It wouldn't surprise me if COG was a loan deal. he wants back up north and they probably want more money than we're prepared to pay on a transfer fee.

I'm sure if NC has the right personnel he'll be perfectly happy to play 4-4-2. Perhaps not in every game...but if you try it and it works.....

Decent signings.

Although not sure where Freeman fits in.
