This is when we welcome Neil Warnock back to the Lane. No doubt there will be some fans giving him stick, but only the ones with very short memories. I'll give him the applause he so richly deserves. This will be a match he won't want to win for our sakes, but will want to win for his new club and fans, and to show McCabe what we are missing.
I'd also be bloody ecstatic if after the match the Palace team bus has our manager on it and they leave us theirs.

As much as I hate to say it, I can't see us winning this at all. In fact if I were to bet money on the game, it would have to be on Palarse.

Even with the Incredible Hulse, I can't see us beating even Tadcaster Albion whilst Robson's in charge. Against Palace with Warnock in charge, we'll get slaughtered so much it'd be almost illegal, and Robson will no doubt have his book of poor excuses ready, he should just bugger off and stop killing our club.

I'm dreading this. I'll give St Neil a warm welcome, as I'm sure the vast majority will. It's just a shame that the same wasn't afforded to him by loads when he was still in charge.

I can honestly see us taking a right royal humping tomorrow.

Much as I'd love to see Billy score the winner - who wouldn't - I've a horrible suspicion we are going to have our pants pulled down tomorrow, and I don't mean by any over-excited balloon fondlers. :bummer:

If NWs ex-players can't get up for this one then we are in trouble. Bet Sharp would really want to put his name on the scorsheet.

Billy might try too hard, especially as I heard in the close season that the reason why he went wasn't just to get first team football, but because he hated St Neil.

I'd have him starting up front with Stead though.

Stead was excellent on the wing and put some quality dangerous balls in. Really should have got an assist if it wasn't for Hulse's awful finish.
Another poor perfomance but we had chances to get something from the game.

Just as I predicted, we're more predictable than WWE Wrestling, and that's fixed. ROBSON OUT!!!!!

I seem to remember you predicting actually that we would get battered and be lucky to keep it under double figures....

Given that Palace had hardly anything on target and we missed numourous chances, does that not mean Robson did well?

shows robson dosent know what to do, hes playing everyone in different positions and changing the tactics.

Surely he has to try something new, given its hardly been working so far?

every game its something new. maybe thats why were not succeeding? too much chopping and changing

If Hulse, Stead, Beattie and others had stuck the chances away we'd be a lot happier than we are.

Simple this game!

Problem is though, its not as easy as that with injuries etc.

And where do you draw the line? same home/away? he found a fairly successful 4-5-1 set up, only for people to throw the toys out of the pram and chant 4-4-2 when he chose to stick with it.

i throw toys out of the pram when were still playing 4-5-1 away from home despite the fact that we are loosing. you go behind you have to attack to score goals, so why sit back?

im more concerned about the chopping and changing in game, from 442 to 433 then to 442 and back to 433 etc, players been moved around so they are unsure of what to do.

There really is too much emphasis put on formations... 4-5-1 can be far more attacking than a 4-4-2. Contrary to popular belief amongst blades fans it doesn't force you to sit back. At most, between formations, players are generally a few yards either way of their normal position.

Generally speaking, the formation a team plays in rarely costs them the game, more to do with players not performing.

If a professional footballer is unsure what to do because the team are playing in anything but a 4-4-2 then they need sacking or a major kick up the arse. By the same logic, surely if we move to a more "attacking formation" like you say, then the players wouldn't know what to do and i'd give us less chance of coming back into the game?

4-5-1 requires an attcking midfield allowing us to break fast, which we havent got so 4-5-1 in our case is to pack the midfield and try to keep them out, hoofing upto the lone striker to try and make something out of nothing.

as you say if they dont know what to do other than 4-4-2 they need a kick up the arse? who by? robson!

p.s i said we have to attack to score goals not attacking formation ;)

Someone made a good point on praise or grumble yesterday about Robson been tactically inept.

The bloke said that after the Blackpool game Robson said he decided not to play 3 up front as the players would get in each others way(what a load of bollocks anyway). So why yesterday did he put 3 up front against 11 men(compared with Blackpool's 10). Thought it was a valid point about Robson not having a clue what he is doing.

Similarly having all our men back for corners and the way all the players are bunched together instead of finding space.

down to training then isnt it?

They bang them in in training, so that part is more to do with confidence/individuals continuing performances.

Virtually every player looks like they are suffering a severe lack of confidence, something that needs to (and has to some extent) be addressed by the management. Fans could help too, by not booing every move that doesn't come off or personally abusing a player who doesn't do what they think is best.

Who better would you have wanted to be in the positions on saturday? Hulse and Stead usually stick away those sort of chances without breaking a sweat... Similarly Beattie normal smashes penalties beyond the keeper before they've even reacted to the kick. So what have we started doing? chanting one Neil Warnock, booing players and substitutions during the game and chanting for the manager out when theres still 30mins left. Real help! :)

We're only told that they bang them in in training though. They might not do for all we know.

You're right about the booing though. I never boo, just dont clap them at the end.

we have been doing that all season, yet the fans have stuck behind them most of the time.
Robson should be telling the players to ignore the fans. getting them jeered up for it. hulse has just come back from injury and stead has been dumped on the bench, maybe if there were match sharp they would have scored.

for 5k a week they get, they should be able to take some stick, its part and parcel with the job.

they can put em in in training but its different in a real game.
