Just went past on the tram, looks miles better. They're up to the C in FC.

Think they've replaced the tarps on the side too.

I'm just mega-impressed they have flying trams now ;)

That'll be any plans to redevelop the Kop off the table for the next 10 years then...

I was thinking the same! Why would we pay thousands to paint the existing Kop if we were looking to replace it in the next few years? Because we probably won't! The planning permission will run out at this rate for the Kop extension and re-build although I can't remember how long it has left?

Saying that, I am pleased we've re-painted the Kop because the outlay won't be that much and its unlikely that we'll replace the Kop until we get promoted which makes sense.

Doubt it's cost thousands to paint it, well maybe one or two.

£10/ litre industrial sun proof paint. Probably need at least one tub haha

But yeah, this is petty cash for a football club. Got to be 20-30mill at least to build a new stand the size of the Kop from scratch, a few thousand for some paint and new tarps isn't going to takeaway from any potential new stand fund.

Update: went past again a few minutes ago, it's not finished yet. They've cleared the letters, but they've still got about a third of the back to go, and there's the bit on the side that connects to the John Street corner but I don't think they'll be in a rush to do that.

They might have left it a teensy bit late. They'll have to tell McCabe the dog ate their paintbrushes or something.

Makes you wonder if the club are waiting on what happens with "safe standing'.
If the club put in rail seating then the shallow rake and minimal leg room shouldn't be an issue.

It's looking more likely now so that could be part of it.
But I think the main reason is we won't do it until we're in the PL because we haven't got the money.

Wouldn't the shallow rake be a hindrance to those safe standing seats being used as seats? All the ones I've seen have a quite high back, how shallow does the rake have to be before the bar is in the way of people sitting behind? I suppose it's moot though because you definitely wouldn't see over a person that was stood up in front of you.

If safe standing gets a bit of wind behind it it'd be a great reason to start again with the Kop. Build it with that in mind and better facilities.

I hope they never increase the leg room on the kop. We need a larger capacity stadium, not a smaller one

Yeah when I say thousands I'm not saying its likely to be a big deal. A few thousands as you said. I just hope we extend and redevelop the Kop in the next 5 years.

Instead of making the Kop a darker shade of pink, how about using the money to make a credible offer for Leonard :mad::mad:

When we get to the Prem do you think we'll varnish it?

Or by that time will we all be too laquered? o_O

yes, as BromTom says, I'd have thought that safe standing bars and seats were much harder to install on old terracing like the kop. I'd hazard a guess at it being impossible.

I also think that the shallower the rake, the more likely crushing is, if you consider Leppings Lane and think about if a crowd were standing up in the top tier of the Bramall Lane stand and someone pushed someone else in the back, I don't think you'd get a domino effect in the steeper raked stand.

For me the safe standing looks like a view obstructed by a metal bar.

They're still on with the painting this morning, not far off finished the back of the Kop now.

I'm happy with the timing of this. It's the way I work too. People say I leave things til the last minute. I prefer to think of it as working to deadlines :)
