If you had to choose one as manager, which would it be?

We don't know yet but we certainly shouldn't be the club gambling on him being brilliant.
Let him cut his teeth in management somewhere else and we'll include him as an option when he's got 100+ successful games under his belt.
It's totally beyond me that he's even under serious consideration.
What the hell did he say at his interview? I'm guessing the word "Yes" figured quite a lot.

Morgan must be even more beyond you then, because he's given us a preview of his 'skills'

Biggs is about as much aware as the Star and RS hacks. They don't like not being 'in the know' so they make things up. I'm quite sure that:

1. McCall was not 'favourite choice of manager' - what an inarticulate phrase, by the way, from a so-called professional writer.
2. McCall did not turn down the job - he was not offered it, though he may have been in due course.
3. Biggs' list of current runners is guesswork. He is not in a position, for example, to rule out Karl Robinson. No hack is.

It's quite clear that no experienced manager with any kind of pedigree is going to touch this job with a barge pole. I have always feared that consequently Morgan would get the nod, by default.

Whilst I can't argue that Page has no managerial pedigree, he has played international football and was an intelligent player. On that basis I would much prefer that he was given a chance ahead of Morgan, who has, in my opinion, shown that he does not have what it takes to make the step up to management albeit that he always gave 100% for the club as a player.

I would rather have neither.

Although Page could have been the man that mastered Port Vale's promotion and Micky Adams was just the front man.

Why are people more convinced by Page than Morgan. Page has coached at Port Vale WOW, give him the job now. Morgan any day

Robert Page was born in Llwynypia.

Anyone who can cope with that has my vote.

(It would be a cracking word for scrabble if they allowed place names)

So we are now in for a coach under the manager who took us down to this division. Are we ever going to appoint a manager again that really excites the supporters. All since Warnock left have been to say the least underwhelming. Look forward to a few managers again this season as Page (or Morgan if he gets it) won't be here at Christmas

So who would you realistically suggest that would fit this criteria ?

Do we want a second-rate has-been who has done the rounds, or a young manager on the way up?

It's a gamble,, but I'd rather have the latter.

Didn't people used to say similar things about Blackwell and Warnock? (Not that we got promoted while Blackwell was Warnock's no. 2)

Looks like it's about 3 to 1 in Pagey's favour then.

I wonder what Morgs thinks to all this. He's likely to feel he's had his nose out out of joint if RP comes in and gets the job ahead of him. Will he then want to be his assistant? It'll be interesting if the board are keen for him to stay on in some capacity. Personally, I don't mind if he stays or goes, it should be down to the new manager, who shouldn't be hamstrung into using staff he doesn't want.

In Morgs' case, I suppose beggars can't be choosers and I wouldn't imagine he'll have the offers of employment rolling in if he leaves us.

My view of Morgan is based on what I have seen.....namely on the pitch before kick off with the same coaching method of...'I throw the ball in the air and one of you head it'....match after match....hardly inspiring.

Of the two i would probably go for Page.

Why?

Namely because Morgan burnt his bridges with me after the play offs. His comments about the team were a disgrace.

I used to love the man till he made those comments. They will haunt the rest of his career

Page for me, I am excited by something fresh and now that a few have turned us down we could just get another failure like Wilson. Rather get someone who isn't tainted (yet!)

It sounded like he was licking arse to the board in order to get the job. I think its actually cost him as he said he wouldnt need to change the squad much. However the board are thinking much diff, if they want a wage bill of £2M.

McCabe wanted a wage bill of 2 million last year, I think they got it down to just over 4. I think Page has identified players already (young and free) and I think this is one of the reasons why McCabe and others like his vision.

I have nothing else to say about Morgan, even though I was one of those championing giving his chance last year. still makes me livid

According to Radio Sheffield, it is either Paige or another mystery candidate who will be interviewed on Monday, Morgan will be offered a position with the development squad.

They say it might be Appleton, I don't see McCabe liking him myself

It's well documented that those two are bad. Morgan was unconvincing in his short spell. Page may be brilliant, though we don't know yet.

So its not well documented that these two are bad. One of them yes but the other one totally unproven.

I for one see it as a positive step that they want to move Morgan back to the development squad. It would have been totally wrong to have put him in the Managers position and after 5 games bin him off totally. Also unfair to say he will never make a decent manager. Bit like telling the apprentice they will never make CEO after a week in the job.

If its Page then thats where we are. Better that than Warnock or some other dinosaur back from the dead. Yes, I know that will draw the usual snarling from the Warnockarati but we should at least make an attempt to move forward.

To be honest we are in a position where we are not going to get someone that pleases everyone however for example Steve Davis at Crewe seemed to be a popular choice yet we don't even know if he was approached. Even McCall would have been a boost but the interviewing panel seem to put him off the job
