Paddy gone

Well if he wasn't pushed then he can fook off.. I am sure he will enjoying his coining and the abuse he will get from the kop. Hope it was worth it Paddy.

People are saying they would jump for a double payrise. I didn't and stayed in Sheffield for my family. Paddy's family is shacked up with his former best mate. When will he get to see them down in London?

Now tell me if you would have jumped for double bubble if you were Paddy

I'm not saying it would be an easy decision but would I trade a bit of time with my kids over the next 3 years (and don't forget, footballers are hardly short of time off) in return for securing their financial future for ever? I think I'd have to.

Would I go for double what I'm on now - no. That's largely irrelevant though, double what I'm on now wouldn't return me £1.5m in 3 years.

If Paddy's not already financially secure for life, he must have eaten a hell of a lot of expensive curries.

exactly my point, never mind the scale of wages I was referring to in my own post either. I'd be lucky to earn 500k in the next 20 years ;)

Our take on it earlier on in the week was that he wouldn't want to move too far away from his kids...

I'm not too gutted as long as we get Simmo on a permanent. I don't want another set of loan keepers.

Probably wants to get away from his wife and his head-banging mates! At least he can have the kids with him in London I would imagine. Lucky Kids!

I'll be happy with Simo as well!

I don't think anyone's particularly blaming him for going Coops, more a case of it coming so quickly after the 'I owe the club everything' speech.

I think some people are.

I accept that the timing is incredibly unfortunate and is bound to leave a bit of a sour taste. 'I'd do anything', 'I owe them everything' - statements like that never actually mean anything or everything - in Paddy's case it obviously didn't cover turning down a million quid for example!

Massive shame to lose him and agree with those who say we need to get Simonsen in as a replacement. Just hope we can afford him. Clayx suggests a 'keeper is lined up ready to come in, hopefully that's right (as long as it's not Mark Bunn)

Why the hell can't we ever sign a replacement BEFORE we sell a player? It's now going to be an anxious wait to see if Simonsen gets a better offer elsewhere.
If he does, we're probably back to the likes of Bunn on loan or spending more than £750K on a keeper worse than Kenny. Not every club is stupid enough to agree release clauses that halve the value of their players.
Stupid, infuriating club!

I've never met you but I can't believe you'd turn down a £500k a year pay rise on a point of principle.

I'm gutted Paddy's gone but I can't blame him for taking what might well be his last big pay day.

Come on, the club and fans stuck by Paddy.
His family (2kids) will have stuck by Paddy.

My family outweights money. Do you have kids Cooperblade. If your wife left you and took the kids.. Would you move to London for the money or stay on a very good wage to ensure you saw as much of your kids growing up as you can? maybe we are different

I would however like to state I have liked to have kept Paddy, but I wouldn't mind Simonsen at all. You never know when Paddy could implode again

Would it be too much to wish for that we actually spend £750k this summer on wages?

None of us know for sure obviously but a poster on bladesmad who claimed to know him said he was on £6k a week and was paying £1k a week to his ex. Sure he's earned more than that in the past but he's only had 6 or 7 years on decent (football-wise) money.

Looked to me like Simmo was saying his goodbyes to Stoke in that article this morning, so here's hoping.

At £6k a week, he's earned around £1.8m in six years.
It always makes me chuckle when the notion of looking after families or looking for financial security comes up because these guys earn more in a year than most of us will in ten.
He could have stayed and remained a rich young man. He's gone and will be a richer young man.
But let's not kid ourselves about some kind of 'need' for him to go.

1) Paddy has shown no loyalty after his drugs return speach, and that's what hurts

2) cooperblade 6K x 52 weeks x 7 years = £2,184,000 for seven years,
As a qualified engineer my last 7 years has bought me about £315,000 , if I were to work for 45
years it would gross me around £2M for working 40 hrs / day 48 weeks / year

and he's still probably got 6K x 52 x 8 years left approx another £2.5M to come , and he'll still not be
aged 40

3) Sothall , the reason we didn't sign first is simple, if we had persuded Paddy to stay , we wouldn'tt have needed such a high profile second string goalkeeper, and I dont think he would've come to play second fiddle.

Final observation :- I would have prefered Kenny, but Simo is a great option, and this will maybe give him the opportunity too be better than Paddy.

If ofcourse all this speculation is true, but I agree Warnocks statement rather proves it is

Why would he be forced out? He's on a contract with reduced terms so there would be no need to get him off the wage bill.

The famous Eighteen89 says he's in a second round of talks with us...

Coops - agreed mate, he was def on more than that although not aware of the extent of his reduction of wages.

Bramley (formerly LS6)

>ANY BID RECEIVED FOR ANY OF OUR PLAYERS = SOLD
couldn't agree more.. kenny's replacement will either be a loan or free i betcha

Sell sell sell.

Bet you could buy some of the fixtures and fittings at the lane right now.

'We tried to keep him BUT', 'it was his agent that informed QPR about the deal', 'ah well there is always the loan market'

It's really not that difficult and it happens at all other clubs. QPR make a bid, Paddy decides he wants to go. United say to both of them, ok but the deal only goes ahead IF and when we have agreed a deal for your replacement. If you're saying that the clause in Paddy's contract prevents us from doing that then I'm telling you that only United would put themselves in that stupid predicament. What would have happened if QPR had invoked Paddy's clause on the 31st August!? Short-term emergency loan by any chance?

big club mentality strikes again, why was,nt the release clause realistic say £1.5 million. now kenny is goin lets dip into the west ham fund and get simo back,a much more accomplished keeper who was,nt afraid to come for crosses. get ready for some more bullshit from warnock

I'd assume that the fact that it's St Neil will have been a big factor. How many years of Paddy's career has he not been with NW?

Would it be justice (or just schadenfreude) if Neil was booted out of QPR by Christmas and Paddy ends up with some non-entity of a manager?

Players come and go and i can deal with that...

The thing that pisses me off most about all of this is that piece by piece anyone with any kind of affiliation or deep routed connection to Sheffield United is being sold off.

It started with the likes of Tonge and Kozzy and has slowly worked through to Billy, Kenny, Geary etc via Kyle Walker and Naughton.

They are then replaced by or part fund a tranfser of player x who, despite maybe being a half decent footballer, is only ever going to be here for a season or two before being sold off again/retire/move on.

Some of these players may not be world beaters and some may be distinctly average at best... but give me somebody like Derek Geary over some loanee from Stoke any time. At least you get the sense that he's 'one of us'

I like Richard Cresswell, i like Jamie Ward, I think Lee Williamson is a good footballer but they wont be around for long. If they're worth any kind of fee they'll be sold or chastised and bullied into underperformace by fear by a shit totalitarian manager and baying crowd.

Anybody with any degree of flare is left out or had it bullied out of them by a dinosour or a management team and that is sympotamatic that the only two long standing bastions of Sheffield United FC left are a blood and guts centre half and a distructive midfielder.

Paddy Kenny has been the number one for a decade of glourious cup runs, playoff heartache, premiership heroics and i'm sure that Simonsen will be a capable replacement but he's little more than just a name to me.

I know one club men are a thing of history but how much we are crying out for another Dane Whitehouse.....?

Errrm, Monty, Morgs?

;)

I'll be gutted if he goes, and slightly disappointed in him, it won't ruin my year or anything just general disappointment after the club showed support to Paddy, but it isn't confirmed yet and just because Neil says something in the press doesn't mean it will come true, he has said stuff that hasn't come to light in the press before.

For now I cross my fingers to the footballing gods and hope Paddy stays.

Probably not the best first post ever, but....

Not that bothered about Paddy going, great shot stopper but his distribution was appalling (often wondered if he was colour blind), he was hopeless at crosses and don't get me started on his forays out of the box!

As for replacements, there's a very good goalkeeper already in Sheffield who plays for a lower division team who need as much money as they can get their hands on.

Welcome. And congrats for being at the front of the phonebook. :)

Question is, do we want to pay SWFC any of our hard-earned? Wendyite's tell me Grant is as ropey on crosses as Paddy is, although he's a great shot stopper.

When given a choice, 9 out of 10 cats preferred shopping elsewhere...

blackwell would want to take him on loan and pigs to pay half his wages though, remember we have to keep the wage bill down
