Pace is the real thing we are missing, all over the pitch we dont have any. Is wilder against it as it appears he doesnt trust anyone with it, the only 2 hes had are moose and the headless chicken burke. Wilder brings in donkeys to do a job but never to bring the pace angle, the likes of hogan, madine etc all did well for us but hes never gone for a real quick athletic type. Also in midfield we never go for the tall athletic type , apart from vini we go down the dwarf route, this was clearly shown last year when we were overrun with bigger faster athletes. In defence now harry has gone there is no physical presence and no pace. So if wilder is to do something this window its get some pace - height - athletism in the side

I am sure he is aware of this, but finding the right player at the right price with these attributes is not easy.

I agree with the OT. I would like to add more pace and more ball carriers.

A guess of our squad's top ten over 40 yards:

  1. Femi Seriki
  2. Tyrese Campbell
  3. Ryan One
  4. Andre Brooks
  5. Rhys Norrington-Davies
  6. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi
  7. Anel Ahmedhodzic
  8. Gus Hamer
  9. Sam McCallum
  10. Vinicius Souza

never mind pace. Apart from One''s goal at Bristol, we haven't scored a header all season. That's ridiculous considering we have a Giraffe at number 9.
Not sure why we get excited with long throws, ffree kicksd & corners.
This must be a record & a shocking one at that.

Brewster is near the top. But we don’t play him as a runner in behind, presumably for fear of injury.

We couldn't even get one with Souttar in the box and there's not much change from 7 feet with him.

Yep I don't get excited by long throws as I think it only once led to a goal in recent memory!

I'm hoping some of this was due to the old scout being terrible at his job. Hopefully Hoyland can do a better job suggesting some quality pacey players.

That is crazy

We have one of the fewest crosses per game in the league, but we still average 14 crosses per game. That's hundreds of crosses so far this season, yet I can barely remember Moore ever even challenging for one, let alone scoring from one. His movement is so bad it's untrue. Look at Billy Sharp who's half his size yet scores a good number from crosses.

1. We do have pace. Brewster, Campbell, One, JRS have pace. We just don't play in a way which would exploit it.

Precisely.
Bottom line is, all of our players can run faster with the ball than they do.
We don't lack pace, we lack drive, bravery, and determination to put the other team on the back foot BEFORE they have chance to think or re-group.
How often do we see Cooper have an outlet to spring a quick counter, and if there is one, how often do we use that as an option?

Our build play is too slow and opposing teams have time to set up. This inevitably leads to teams sitting in and us playing in front of them. To utilize any pace we have in the team we need to look forward earlier and establish a culture of players making runs into the final third. Not only will this give us greater options to stretch the opposition but it will also create more space for people like Hamer and O'Hare to exploit.

Brewster and running should not be in the same sentence.
The first 2 minutes lastnight he was tackled whilst in motion and got up very very gingerly. I half expected him to go off again.
I think my aging Hammys are in better shape than his 😄

It’s stressful viewing isn’t it. Like watching a child chop an onion.

It's frustrating, isn't it? It's always been like it under Wilder, and even Hecky in between. Must be the Bladey Blades way or something.

We at least managed to put together some quick counter-attacking under Hecky with McAtee, Ndiaye, Berge and Doyle. When we counter now, more often than not a player will turn inside and kill the impetus.

Is he still in the secret cupboard or have I missed an announcement about him ?
Wasn’t he part of the Page run setup? Probables back to a newsagent and Blackwall’s brother doing our scouting and buying under Rosen

Pace is great, but our ball retention at the top of the pitch is shocking.

We very rarely have sustained periods of pressure on matches, we rely on individuals to spark a moment and then hope to defend our lot.

We need to be able to unlock teams and you'd think with 3 x AMs (Hamer, O'Hare, JRS) we should be capable of keeping the ball, moving the opposition about and creating an opening.

Quick players have never been important in Wilderball, either in his first spell with us or in the current one. He prefers to have the ball do the work, patiently moving the opposition around the pitch without taking the sort of risks that come with dribbling or risky balls into space.

This being the case, is it possible, and people may want to prepare themselves for this highly controversial suggestion.....

... that we're not best served by having both Hamer and OHare on the same pitch?

Honestly, how much do they really create, and really influence? They usually get nowhere. The lack of pace at CF doesn't help but if there was anything like the partnership that we assumed there would be between these 2, they would surely have shown a lot more. Playing them both also inhibits our ability to get more pace on the pitch, because they're both slow, especially OHare

If we don't replace at least half of our front 4 we aren't going to be good enough. Not with Souttar's absence weakening the defence significantly

Think we can all see that Hamer is better suited to the middle. As for Rabbit, not sure he actually has a particular position other than to harras the opposition when they have ball.
