Pace and Height

The top teams have both of these in abundance. If you want to challenge for anything, you need at least one. We've got neither. We are so slow all over the pitch (Donovan aside, who I feel sorry for) and have zero physicality. I find it weird, as the first thing Wilder did when he came in for his first spell was to get some big lads in, who could compete physically. Now he just goes for old has beens who are on their way down. I get the board are mainly to blame, but the squad we've assembled now is laughable. Choudhury, BBD, Riederwald, Doherty, Phillips are all way past their best. You can have one in the side for experience, but to have 4 or 5 in the side is asking for trouble. Also giving Campbell a new contract after he came back from the summer break is an abysmal decision. He's not interested anymore and should have been moved on (along with Cannon). Making this many mistakes can only lead one way I'm afraid and I see us struggling for the next 2 or 3 years.

I’m not sure the board are mainly to blame. I think the blame can be chucked in several different directions which includes the board, but certainly not limited to them.
 
I've said for a while that we lack height and pace. People used to call Pulis a dinosaur for only wanting lads who were 6ft or taller, but he got Stoke into the top tier with that philosophy.

When Shackleton and Arblaster were brought on, yesterday, I said to the Mrs that we were basically killing off any chances to win headers, every time Coops punted a ball up field.
 
The midfield is the main area we're lacking this. Us playing a 2 vs 3 which most teams do is already a losing battle.

Then add that those 2 are Peck and Riedewald, two players which have neither any pace, athleticism or physicality and it's easy to see why teams can play straight through us. Need to lose Campbell and go 4-5-1. Personally I'd drop both of them and go for Rothwell, Blaster and Phillips.

Thats a sacking offence!... giving Campbell a new contract!
 
It's saying something when the most aggressive player in our team, with the most bite and the most tenacity to win a ball or get the ball back from an opposition player is the smallest lad on the pitch, Donavan. He has the pace as well. If he had the height he would be a world beater, but he is better than anything else that we have.

Bamford looks like he is running through treacle. His reaction time and speed of thought, compared to last season, is way off the mark.

Why doesn’t wilder like quick players??
Every side in this league have pace we have zero
There’s no outlet when we get the ball in midfield everyone stops looking around because there’s no movement nobody to pass to and on a flash we’ve lost the ball
 
It's hilarious that we are now having to play hoof because of the lack of midfield control (only got about 8 midfielders like) but we have no height or pace 🤣

To be fair Shackleton ran around and got stuck in. Like I said only he, RND and Donovan (plus Cooper) wanted to try and win that match yesterday.

Everyone else didn't give a fuck or were too knackered to try.

Agree with that, Shacks got stuck in as well. Peck is always feisty, as is RND, but it was young Donavan, running in and hacking away to get the ball back that I saw time and time again, yesterday.
 
Bamford has a goal in him I feel he is worth a place even if he’s not going to chase down, the middle is problem even though we’ve never had so many midfield players but they all seem to offer exactly the same traits personally I’d go back to a 5-3-2 and stop copying what everybody because the managers association book says we ought to do it that way.
