I really don't get the hashtag of southgateout. Surely at a major tournament, you get behind the team for the duration? the time for changing managers is afterwards?! Or is he calling out Serbians and Gareth Southgate?

It's a longstanding tradition to absolutely take the piss out of the England manager, and long may it continue. Southgate's reign (like eg Sven, Robson, Taylor) will be looked back on with some respect but while he's in charge he remains a tosser.

Read this thread, seen the videos .
One thing you don't do is go to boro mouthing off.
I got slashed on linthorpe Road near the old ayersome park in the 80s .
We had lost aswell 6-0 .
Went there so many times always dodgy but a holiday to Gambia I got to know a few from Stockton and still keep in touch. A mate runs the reindeer pub in Stockton
I'd rate boro , Portsmouth, Stoke, Birmingham the most intimidating places back in the day possibly Bolton aswell .
The lesser clubs I'd add grimsby , port Vale, hartlepool. This was when no cctv , no massive copper presence no druggie youths mouthing off .
I went for football and a few beers but heyyy you were greeted by the home lads .
Nowadays it's mouthy youths high on drugs with no clue.

….which might coincide with us winning the square root of fuck all since 1966

No clue about what, proper scrapping like real men?

Or slashing?
One of the coppers in the TV series pointed out the lack of code nowadays compared to previous generations of hooligans. They consider everyone fair game and are generally on a mission to cause disorder. All these younger ones are aged between 13 and 18. Most probably realise that the full force of the law won't come down on them.

It’s amazing, I’ve been to Boro a few times for football and a few beers and never seen any trouble!

It’s as if when you’re not looking for it then it won’t find you?!

I've never gone looking for it either but went to many a dodgy away game. Especially in the 80s. Boro being one of them.

Did you go boro away when we lost 6-0?

I’ve been to many football games in my time. Only time there was any trouble near me was at Sunderland in the 80s.

your obviously a youngster and wernt at ayresome park in april 71 very lively on boros end that day

I agree that if you're finding trouble regularly, or did, then it suggests you're not trying to avoid it.

But...the idea that you only find it if you are looking is bollocks.

I'm too young to remember the 70s and was only a kid through most of the 80s. But the first time I found it was at Chesterfield in the late 80s. Me and a few mates, 15 or 16, minding our own business after getting off the 70 bus.

I've never run with the BBC or gone to a match thinking I'll get involved in bother.

However, there have been times when it's found us just for being in the wrong place and if I'm honest, a few times when I've reacted to provocation.

I guess pearl clutchers are gonna clutch though.

Derby lived life he did, he isn't in it now I don't know why everyone takes piss and puts him down. If he was saying stuff about the here and now then I'd think he's a prick but he grew up in a different era and he's got some tales to tell. Who's he hurting?

And the man is blades mad may I add. With a very accommodating missus.

I've met Derby in years gone by and found him a top fella but can't comment on his life or what he stands for after a handful of meets.

Some on here though just look to provoke or stir shit as that seems to be their primary MO.
