loveWalrusDavetheBlade seeks to congratulate Bert on his remarkable powers of observation, even under the duress of bombardment. He wonders whether Bert’s exceptional acuity extended to observation of a brief white flash from the opposing terrace, immediately prior to arrival of the billiard ball, consistent with that of a freshly laundered Butler’s glove engaged in the process of launching said projectile from deep within the cover of the seething Middlesbrough hordes? In that event, then presumably Bert, on return to his main residence, could have instructed his housekeeper to conduct a swift but thorough inventory of Bert’s billiard room, so establishing compelling and durable evidence of criminal guilt?

Asking for a friend.
Bert initially considered heading it back at those Middlesbrough skinheads but he quickly calculated the velocity of the ball and came to the conclusion that a large hole in his head would result in missing most of the game whilst the St John's patched him up.

I've never gone looking for it either but went to many a dodgy away game. Especially in the 80s. Boro being one of them.
If anybody says they went to ayrsome park in the 70s /80s and didn’t feel like their lives were in mortal danger then they either lying or they are boro fans.. looking for it or not

Gary Armstrong had an article published about Blades fans in the 80s running amok in Middlesbrough town Centre and in the seats at Ayresome Park.

Coach full of Boro fans stopped off in town mid 70s word went round we caught up with them on the ramp going up to the Top Rank mixture of Blades and Wednesday just hard core town lads kicked em to fuck everybody’s strong in their own manor

Remember arsenal away that night very well.
81/82 was first season my parents let me travel away on my own . Night game and had school next morning .
Remember some trips back then and getting adopted by older blades .
I was 14 but went allover on football specials .
My paperound money x 3 rounds paid for the trips .
Hartlepool was dodgy back then but not now , tranmere was rough back then but not now .Scunthorpe the women who was punching blades at the old show ground .
Colchester the 5-2 defeat I just got home for it yo be on match of the day .
Port Vale was rough that year but blades took over and Edwards goal sublime .
I went to school with the woodthorpe lad who robbed the tannoy announcer of his records that day .
York the 4-3 win , ended up on the pitch
After that Vale match you mentioned a Transit van carrying some blades was parked near us and attacked by some vale lads , smashing the windows etc. The blades lads found what they could use as weapons from the van and bizarrely chased the Vale lads down the road with tins of paint.
One of the strangest and funniest things I've seen following the blades.

If you don't want to fight at the football then run away. Simple.

To reach your destination you have to go through the station.
Some people choose the odd away game , others do them all.
At some point trouble happens because you bumpninto other teams who have been on the beer or drugs .
St Pancras serves , Leicester derby, sheffield Leeds its pretty obvious with different fans it's gonna kick off .

Read this thread, seen the videos .
One thing you don't do is go to boro mouthing off.
I got slashed on linthorpe Road near the old ayersome park in the 80s .
We had lost aswell 6-0 .
I got a good kicking that day too, by about 20 of ‘em. 🤬😂

I went in the 90's and stood on their kop. Ok, I was with a Boro supporting mate and his dad, fair enough, but I didn't feel threatened. I didn't jump up and down with my arms out and take the piss but I didn't exactly try to hide my allegiance and was happily chatting all game with some Boro fans stood next to us. In fact, I've been to 3 away matches, following Boro with my mate and had a thoroughly enjoyable day out each time.

Front cover of Middlesbroughs hooligan book shows them battling with Blades in the seats.

The blade throwing the punch is a good mate of mine, known him since childhood, actually saw him the other day, these lads were the suicide squad, did their own thing away from the main beeb lot

Maybe i'm completely off it but i think Boro are the nearest Yorkshire team to us in terms of fans, passion, support, identity, being shite..............you get my drift. (BTW for some of the more pedantic peeps on here I dont mean 'near' as in geographically)

Scunthorpe the women who was punching blades at the old show ground .
Yes I remember her. As I recall she was quite a hefty wench! Who also appeared to pack quite a punch. She was toe to toe at the back of their kop against a couple of Blades who eventually were forced to retreat. Lol.
We lost one nil I think. Steve Neville came on as sub and was red carded after about 30 seconds!
As we left the ground there was a pissed up blade so far gone he was laid on the terrace sleeping it off.

Let’s hope that by page 15 all the egos of aged so-called hard men will be sufficiently inflated.

Absolutely pathetic thread
It's 2024
Blades are posting about what it used to be like back in the day .
Not one person has said their into trouble they are posting how it was was 70s/80s .
Inflated egos not a chance just a case of the minute you got off the train at an away game or in the ground then expect trouble
As I've posted boro away they were always ouf for you , pompey same and Birmingham but surprises back then grimsby , port Vale.

I know we’ve just had the worst PL season, England aren’t looking any too cracky, but why would you want to go back 60+ years to the age of the neanderthals? I followed United home and away since 1964, and apart from a Titleist 65 on my nut at the Lane from a City fan, never a moment of trouble - being 6’4” and 16 stone probably helped there.

Not a time to be celebrated.

Thanks, the defence rests, m’lud
