I guess I could try to find out, but I can't be bothered! My recollection is that in 1989/90, 2005/06 and 2018/19 we improved as the season went on. Were we in the top two at Christmas during any of those promotion seasons?

89/90 and 05/06 we were second, with extremely healthy gaps to 3rd. 18/19 we were 6th

I've not seen the league table generator before, I can see myself spending many hours looking at this!

I remember us deteriorating in 2005/06 as the season went on, but due to us having such a strong start, promotion was unavoidable despite our best efforts

Similar in 89/90 too. My recollection is that we were top for a while (although not quite as strong a start as 05) until Leeds took over halfway through the season. Then after the 4-0 loss at Elland Road at Easter we looked in danger of dropping out of the top 2 for the first time all season.

I seem to remember it was looking a bit ropey around the time of the Coventry debacle with Gary Flitcroft. Then we recovered on a decent run

That's about right looking at the results - an 8-match run with only 1 win Feb to March (the win was at Hillsborough:p) but then 3 wins and 3 draws from the last 6 was enough

2018/19 we were 6th with 38 points after drawing 1-1 to Ipswich. We lost 2 games after Christmas that season
Obviously didn’t matter in the end but I was at that game and it’s one of the worst teams I’ve ever seen is drop points to. They were absolutely shocking. Scored a fluke over Hendo’s head and escaped with a point, before being deservedly relegated.

As I recall in 05/06 Warnock went and bought about 4 strikers to replace Shipperley, who’d been brilliant for us. We went on a dreadful run and eventually he put Shipps back in and we started winning again.

Ships had wanted to leave, I think someone had come in for him so Warnock allowed him to talk to them. I guess whatever they were offering wasn’t quite what he expected so he ended up staying.

We should have blown it that season, we had a run where the team below should really have overtaken us. Fortunately the club below was Leeds and their manager was that bottling twat Blackwell.

Boxing day tends to be interesting:

2-2 v leeds
1-3 norwich
3-1 derby

The leeds and derby games were incredible matches especially the latter, a real catalyst for what was to follow. On a more pessimistic note i remember losing 3-0 at home to coventry one boxing day when the entire team were abject - too full of turkey & claret.
