I was in the newly reopened Three Tuns yesterday afternoon and btw, the beer is superbly kept and the landlord is a Blade.

We sat near 5 Wednesdayites in their 50s/60s. A group of blokes having a few beers and they seemed and looked sensible enough but then I overheard:

" Most of United's fans are from out of Sheffield, Thousands come from Rotherham and when Rotherham are shit they all go the Lane"

"Yes that's right. Kel Brook went to the New York the week before his fight and even though they knew he was a Blade they all cheered him"

These two statements of 'absolute fact, were met with murmurs and nods of agreement,

Fortunately I managed to blot out any more drivel,

Struggling to work out why that matters.
4 of us season ticket holders are from outside Sheff.
My bro in law is the biggest single minded blinkered blade you have ever met and lives in wick.
My 2 sons blades through and through one from armthorpe one from conisbrough.
My Bessy is a blade lives in Rotherham. I also live in Rotherham.
Oh and the Sunday dinners in the 3 tunns are excellent.
Do you have to live in Sheff to be a proper blade? I think not.

It doesn't matter a jot, but it isn't true and that's the point. It's Wednesday fans being delusional tying in any way they can to claim some form of sovereignty over Sheffield

Don't worry pal , it's called Pig Anxiety Syndrome , physchogo.ists reporting large scale outbreak since May . Symptoms include

Talking repeated bollocks & verbal diarrhoea
A fear of Red & White Stripes
Inability to determine size - everything in blue appears massive
Prolonged memory loss as 22000 all say they were all part of 10000 from the late 70s
A long lasting bitter taste if the mouth resulting in a contorted facial expression that develops into the nasal area becoming a snout

But don't you find that about many football fans, be they Wednesday, United, or some other supporters? They don't deal in facts - they haven't a clue about statistics (but they quote them all the time and make the most ridiculous assumptions based on them) - and they are full of superstition. It all makes for a very entertaining yet frustrating debate.

One example on this board last season - those fans who were clamouring for Matty Done to be in the team absolutely invented a fact to suit their argument. They said "we didn't lose when he was in the team" . They totally ignored the first few win-less games of the season in which he played every match.

It's a good game this. We can all do it. Think of something you want to believe is true - then make something up as if it's a stone wall fact - and you'll quickly have others agreeing with you.

Quite the reverse. I'd accept there are more pigs than Blades, I honestly believe there are more Blades within Sheffield.

South Barnsley scum. :)

Same here. I've often thought that more than half of the city's football fans are blades.

It's only an opinion based on observations but you do see more blades around the city than pigs.

They do get a lot of support from outside the city, I think they'd be the first to say so. They often brag about how Doncaster for example is mainly Leeds and them. They do have a lot from the Barnsley area as well.

Given how close the two fanbases are in numbers it stands to reason that United must make up the difference with support from the actual city.

This is the club that didn't even bear the city's name in its title for the first 62 years of their existance. They only added 'Sheffield' as a marketing strategy.

We remain the only professional club to have remained in the city all along, to have always carried its name and to have worn the coat of arms on its shirt.

It’s obviously bollocks that ‘most’ blades come from Rotherham but it is true that there is a general friendliness between the two sets of supporters that doesn’t exist between the pigs and Rotherham. Or the pigs and any other set of supporters for that matter.

In fact, I’d go as far as saying that the commarardary between millers and Blades comes from a direct result of our joint hatred of the pork (and Leeds).

Define Rotherham?
I live in the borough of Rotherham. I have a Sheffield post code , (yes I know the town of Rotherham does, so does Worksop in Nottinghamshire). I went to school in Sheffield. Sheffield is my city and I have always been proud of it.
In S25 there are as many if not more piggies than Blades. Kiveton is also in the borough of Rotherham but it has one of the best supporters club for the Blades does it not?
Trying to point out that the city's actual regions has more Blades than piggies does nothing for us totally loyal Blades from other parts of Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire or anywhere else for that matter.
You should be proud the influence and message has spread, I am.
Thanks for being one of us JonnyRed(WCFC)

I was born and bred in S2 which is solid Blades territory. My mates are all Blades. My family are all Blades and pig interlopers are non existent, even in the extended part of the family. I refuse to associate with pigs to the extent that I would be in the dock on charges of ethnic cleansing and hate crime if I practised this idealogy in any other walk of life. Do I care? Do I fuck.

TBH I couldn't really give a fk where the support comes from , I'm from a bid blade area but I couldn't give a shit if I was the only Blade in Stinksborough or Kensington or Kiveton for that matter . Like any city team the support willl come from a wife area & ppl will have ties to us / support us through family that have moved away from the area with work that originated locally , doesnt make any odds either way . Unlike the Man U's ,Chelsea's etc. they can hardly be accused of glory hunting or jumping on the band wagon of success can they !!!!

I've always though quite the opposite, I would say we're the city club, based in the city centre etc and probably the most working class (originally) of the two clubs.

I'm 40 now and was bought up in Stocksbridge, pigsville, and up that way, Barnsley, Rotherham tended to be pigs. Our fanbase id suggest was mostly city centre, dronfield, possibly Chezzy way. Pigs are all north Sheffield and small towns on the outskirts.

On another note I can always spot a pig fan from 20 miles away, slightly farm / pig like look to em, usually the kids who were trying to be the cock of the year at school until they got dropped by someone 2yrs younger then played the victim.

I once worked in Barnsley - full of scrubbers and half breads, and plenty of them pigs - much like the quarter of Sheffield they draw from.

A perfect match. Cunts.

My question is how do they know? I have no idea, I'd like to think there are more blades in sheffield because we are the city club, years ago on the Saturday show saint and greavsie they were discussing United and Wendy and who is the largest etc, greavsie saud the potential is United as they are the city club and Wendy are in the suburbs, always liked old greavsie after that, so there you have it, proof we have the bigger potential

and here's another Wick blade (well now Bramley) :)

In my experience there are indeed a lot of Blades from Rotherham, but I have no problem with that. It may be a separate town but Rotherham is officially part of the Sheffield Metro Area and is the same city in all but name. There's no countryside separating Rotherham from Sheffield.

I'd be far more worried if a large number of our fans came from Barnsley.

I've lived in Barnsley all my life and there is as many pigs round here (Hoyland and Wombwell) as dingles. Just on another point, the pigs here are just as deluded as the rest. Always spouting about their big crowds.
