Our chances in the loan market?

It looks like a few of the big names from the Premier are going abroad.

A few have gone today.

Wonder what our chances are and could we afford anyone decent?

I'll kick this one off then.

Given Bolton have Davies, Elmander, Klasnic and have added Rodrigo on a 12 month loan today and the fact that they appear to have attacking midfielders coming out of their ears I think that Danny Ward might be available. Having looked at their squad you could get to 26 players who have all played first team football before adding Rodrigo and Odabeyi and Ward.

Successful on loan at Swindon last season and might add pace and a little something extra we lack.

OK, Speed doesn't have the contacts within the current management team at Bolton, but I am sure he will still have some connections at senior levels to pull off a deal.

good call Wards, PL clubs arent restricted to a max of 25 man squads, they can just have a max of 17 non-home grown players, with a minimum of 8 home-growners. on top of that they can include as many under 21's as they want at any point without having to name them as part of the initial 25.

this being said, a good number will still go out on loan as their managers will want them to gain experience in a first team and not in a reserve side, now just a case of whether we can get a good 'un, and hope that they can have the type of impact that players like Cleverley/Lansbury etc have had in the past.

Having said that - if you are outside the 25 the chances of you even making the bench are remote. It would need significant injuries (multiple in the same position) to change things. That would never happen......oh hang on....last season.....Bramall Lane

I just cant believe we're talking about this again. Less than 6 months after being told we wouldn't rely on the loan market and would learn from the foray last season..........

I don't mind if they just tell us they will need to sign 4 or 5 loan players. I'll accept that if its what has to be done, but a lot of people including myself bought a season ticket on the strength of a promise that we would build a solid squad of OUR players. Ah well.....
