Our Championship fears.....

in the past 10 seasons of the 30 teams promoted only 6 have come straight back down , and none of those are championship sized clubs
yeovil mk dons southend scunny donny and posh

no one with a 9000 plus average gate has fallen straight back down in 10 years

the only people who insist theres a gulf are the porkers obviously petrified we will return to be above them as we used to be every season

Another record we can set. :(

Well we should have no worries because the prince is gonna start spending that cash when we get promoted.

It will be interesting to see this.

When he came in 4 or so years ago he said he would release the funds once we were in the Champ.... Now the expenditure up there has doubled or trebled in alot of cases, will we still see the same bang for our buck?

Im not too fussed about how much we actually spend. (i'll leave that to the oinkers.) I'd rather the cash we spend be spent wisely.

My shopping list would be:-

centre back
Left sided defender/wingback
Goal Scoring Mid/Attacking Mid
Striker/Target man
Cover Keeper

I don't think Wilder would throw ridiculous sums at individual players

Spot on GM. Lets not forget the Championship is an unknown quantity for CW and his team and they will have to learn. I would imagine he will take advice and the board will try (as usual) to minimise risk and outlay.

In other words he will have to do it on the cheap not at current market values or take the blame. The other option is Kev and Bog-roll will sell out to a money laundering outfit.

If anyone is in any doubt about how incredible the Championship is and how our team of "cloggers, rejects and poor manager" will struggle then look at the thread in the "hidden section" on Owlstalk.

Worth signing up for the sight of people trying desperately to reassure each other and clearly failing. I've joined in preparation of next season possible "View From Wednesday" and had a great time looking at the 325 page thread on us

I think the money the Prince was going to spend in the Championship has already been spent keeping us in League 1. The deal between KM and the Prince was 50/50 and the losses we have racked up in the last 4 years will have taken care of the Prince's potential investment. My betting is on KM buying him out or the Prince selling it on to a third party to get his money back.

You're a real stalker, aren't you? ;)

keep up the good work btw.

Did you shower afterwards?

That quote about championship investment is the stupidest lie McCabe has ever told ,hope he doesn't end up regretting it

I guess the only investment will be whatever the difference in losses between championship and league one

Can we have a snippet please Oh Weird One? ;) (You know, for those who don't want to soil ourselves on that place.)

I would start next season with a smile at us being in the Championship again, but with a realistic outlook that there WILL be 4\5 teams worse than us.
We play as we can\should & we will stay above relegation, anything more than that and I will be very pleasantly surprised.

I'm inclined to believe that the Prince's vast fortunes don't really exist.

Not suggesting that we've been lied to, though the Liverpool comparison was obvious hyperbole.

What concerns me is the Prince came on board in 2013. That's only four years ago but in those four years Championship fees have gone mad and plenty of big money owners have stepped in. In relative terms we may have been in the money in the Championship four years back but average or worse in terms of financial backing now.

Either way I don't think the money will be all that important. Wilder and the mentality of the players will decide our fate.
I reckon KM managed to find the poorest bloke in Saudi Arabia to partner up with :-( Our only hope is he has some very rich mates/cousins who might want to join the rollecoaster/bandwagon. UTB

The most important asset we'll be taking into the Championship is Chris Wilder's work ethic and his style of play which is embraced by all at the club. If it's not taken on board by any member of the team then they are shown the door.

I wonder how many of those chosen for that League One team of the year would improve us. This is where Wilder and Knill maybe looking to recruit for next season.

Wilder's work ethic has worked in non-league, league 2 and now in league1. There is no reason to suggest he can't make it work in the Championship. And beyond? Well let's enjoy the journey and wait and see.

I think perhaps one or two like Beevers and Gregory would make us stronger. That’s the sort of market I expect us to be looking at. Top players from League 1 and 2 with perhaps one or 2 proven championship additions.

I thought Patrick Bauer looked very useful for Charlton on Saturday. 6”4 centre half and only about 23/24 years old. Murray Wallace at Scunny is another fairly young centre half that has impressed me at this level.

I agree we’ll need a new striker. I mentioned Gregory as a possibility but would also consider different types of striker. Perhaps a mobile big man in the form of Bogle or Akinde or similar. If forest were to drop, perhaps we could go for Assombalonga.

I hope that CW continues to move the club in a forward direction. There's no room for sentiment and "I'll give this squad till Christmas because they're the ones who won promotion" He needs to (and I think he will) improve the squad in the summer or (and I'm sure he's aware of this too) if we get off to a disastrous start he could be.... Let's not even go there.

Can we have a snippet please Oh Weird One? ;) (You know, for those who don't want to soil ourselves on that place.)

Just a few of the many good quotes here

“Wilder looks like a bus driver. Classic lower league manager like Warnock, Evans etc, that will get found out.”

“the team is littered with failures at Championship level, such as Sharp, Fleck, Freeman, Moore, Lavery and Basham.”

“They now are talking of selling 25000 season tickets next season of averaging 30000 and going up
Talk about getting ahead of yourself to compete they would have to raise prices significantly wich wouldn't go down well so they'll probably keep them cheaper to try and outdo us and reduce the budget and have little or no money to spend on a squad that would need serious money spending on it just to survive”

“ They can't win regarding ticket receipts. They either keep giving em away and keep selling concessions to adults .Or they charge proper prices and no body turns up”

“Having seen them a couple of times, they are poo and that is not with blue tinted glasses on. League 1 this year is abysmal. Their fans can also stop taking moral high ground on ticket prices when they don't pay what they are supposed to”

“they have a bunch of cloggers, freebies and cast offs captained by a fat waste of space who failed with them on two previous occasions.”

“ Everybody likes to see teams working hard. And in League One that appears to be enough. In The Championship? You need more. Someone a page or two ago mentioned that hard work has been enough for Burton, but I think that's dismissive of their side. Burton work hard but they have a couple of capable players. They came to Hillsborough last week with an obvious game plan but they've taken other scalps as well at home by playing well, not just battling. Working hard isn't mutually exclusive from having quality either. I'm not convinced there are many players in the Championship who cover more ground than the likes of Bannan, Lee and Forrestieri have over the last 18 months. I get the impression United think they can turn up at Hillsborough and simply out battle and out run us. As sluggish as we've looked at times this season, that's a battle we are absolutely capable of rising to if that's all they've got. Sooner or later they've got to realise and accept that they need better players as well. I'm hoping it's about 10 games into the season before anyone clicks on. “

“Part of me is quite looking forward to the absolute tonkings the pigs are gonna get to be honest.”

“I honestly believe they will be in for such a huge shock. It seems Wilder has a knack for signing lower league grafters but that doesn't get you very far in this division. “

“Said it before but this scrubbers team would have been pushed to get into the play-offs in 2012. They're definitely not as good as Charlton, us, Huddersfield or they were back then. Nowhere near. “

"Their side this season would be completely taken apart by the side we were promoted from League One with at the time."

One poster hits the nail on the head though when he says "How many different ways can we say they won't compete in the Championship? Sounds like some of us are trying to convince themselves by saying it over and over again"

'Fears of the Championship'?

Pretty chilled this end, just getting ready...

We have one big advantage going up, a manager and his team who know the market and have the vision to recruit to enhance the team. The Championship is a bit strange mainly due to the parachute payments when teams get relegated. The secret seems to bring in players who can fit in and not prima donnas I have no doubt our manager will add to his squad wisely and maybe bring through a few of our talented youngsters, someone's going to benefit from them

They can't win regarding ticket receipts.

Well there you go. it's all done and dusted isn't it. We're not playing for points anymore by the sounds of it.

I really can't wait to rip into the fuckers next season, they're beaten before we even play them listening to that drivel.

God I hate the fuckers.

Similar standard
Just more money involved for the same thing

Give over wi' Akinde. He'd be as mobile as a telegraph pole in the Championship. I can't for one minute envisage us signing a 28 year old who's not played higher than L2.

There are still a number of players in League One and maybe even League Two that are capable of playing in the Championship

It's just a case of finding them and then adding a couple of proven Championship players

We also have a team spirit and talent within the current squad, at least half a dozen of which can play at Championship level

Deluded cunts.

Do they think we won't strengthen if we go up?
Clutching at straws. How many times have most of them seen us play? Once or twice on TV? But they're all experts. They're shitting it and so they should be. 'He looks like a bus driver'. And Carlos looks like a cunt.

I had two bets this season, one to win promotion and one to win the league - hedging as it's called at my GA meetings...

Next season I've already decided I'm going for Blades to finish out of the bottom three and Blades' to make the playoffs. If we finish mid-table I'm fooked and may need a replacement car / house etc.
