Do the club specifically request away games or something, or does the fact that we generally tend to be at home on boxing day factor into it?

Got very depressed when I saw the teams we are playing this season, relegation has just hit home to me.

The opposite happend to me. Look at the teams and thought we could win this league.

I think generally we have tended to be away on Boxing Day - last year was an exception

Fucking hell, I almost thought as I was a pig... I looked at the fixtures and thought aahh we will piss this.. Apologies

Wycombe away four days after my birthday. Was up there for work the other week, not a bad place for a session.

And as a double-whammy, BBC Football have today moved our team page down to League 1. The transition is now complete...

I've been waiting for that moment. It's the filling in our poo sandwich.

Its like being in A&E with a rusty sword up your rectum when your PA turns to you and says "Oh, and dont forget, youre due to get kicked to death in four minutes"

1st win away at oldham will be massive for us. If we can pick up points there then two 'winable' home games v brentford & walsall could give DW the start he so badly needs. To be fair the first 6 games look favourable. We get a decent run together we could steamroller some of these teams. Scunny away gave me the creeps though.... hate going there!!!

We don't exactly have a great record at Oldham. I'd get my money on us having someone sent off, we usually do at Boundary Park!

Also noted that all the midweek games in August, September & October are at home. Generally less on the gate for these midweek games. Means the pigs will have all Saturdays and no midweek home games for the first half of the season. There has to be a pig involved with the fixture computer.

Didn't we once beat them on there plastic pitch???
1990 at the end of the season, was a massive victory that contributed to promotion. 2-0 Deane and I think Booker scored.

I remember going away to Oldham for the first game of the season a few years ago with lots of optimism. We lost, then kept losing, and Bassett was sacked shortly afterwards.

Oldham away is going to be strange! 10 minute journey to the ground and for the missus her first time in the away end at Boundary Park after spending her Youth as a Season Ticket Holder at Latics. One of her greatest memories was Oldham winning the Old 2nd Division title beating Wednesday with an injury time penalty scored by Neil Redfern.

That was 95/96 wasnt the first game though, but early in the season (first game was Watford away iirc) - i think we lost 5 in a row at the start of that season.

I think you're right come to think of it. It's strange the things that you remember, but I'm sure I recall it being so hot the day of Watford away that my lager was getting warm before I was even halfway down the bottle!

Good game to start off with. Not too far so we should take a few. Remember watching the Blades notch up a fabulous 5-1 victory at Boundary Park after going a goal down. Can't remember if it they had the plastic pitch at the time or not. Some time in the late Eighties I think?

I remember losing 2-0 there one season and having a man sent-off, and then drawing 2-2 I think the following season after having 2 players sent-off, my memory might be a bit hazy but I think Steve Foley got both goals and the last 10 minutes was like the alamo. Darren??

Quite happy first game is away as I am holiday then!! Looking at the other away games Yeovil on August bank holiday might be a new one for me :) Others like Rochdale & Walsall that I haven't been to appear to be night matches though (as did Carlisle until a few minutes ago on official site).

They hadn't been beaten for ever when we beat them. A night game and a great atmosphere. There were hundreds of Blades outside listening to the game as they couldn't get in. The singing from outside the ground was amazing. One of the best games I've been to.

Our away record at Oldham might not be great, but it's very nearly just as good as our home record against Brentford!

Away at Oldham - W8 D6 L10
Home to Brentford - W3 D4 L4

And there are several teams in this division that we have worse away records against - Brentford, Chesterfield and Charlton to name but 3. There are more.

Fair enough OB. I would've agreed with Chesterfield, terrible record there, and it's probably just the mind playing tricks and only recalling the bad travels, but I seem to remember a run of trips to Oldham and not getting owt, playing badly and getting players sent-off.
