Sharp missed one last season in front of kop didnt he, i was cheering for a good 10 secs till i realised.. cant remember game, all mistakes forgotten as our heroes "pissed the league". ;)

Simon Stainrod. Easily the worst miss I've ever seen. In front of the kop, he gets through on goal just outside the penalty area, keeper comes out, goes round him, shoots at the empty net and turns around to celebrate - only thing is the ball got stuck in the mud and never made it over the goal line.

Peter Osgood, for Chelsea, when he was one of the golden boys, never seen a miss like it.

My first game. Would have been his hattrick. Easter Saturday 1978. We beat Luton 4-1 in a downpour.

I can remember Gareth Taylor hitting the BLUT from a distance of 0 yards when he was at Burnley. Last game of 01/02 I think.

Only the Burnley fans were surprised.

He also got in the way of a John Flynn header that day.

Steve Kindon of Wolves rounding Jim Brown at the Lane End but slipped in the mud and the ball then trickled out of play. Blades fans in the ground fell about laughing but Kindon had the last laugh as he scored twice in Wolves' 4-1 win in March 1976.

My dad never forgot the miss by Peter Osgood of Chelsea (I was at the game but dont remember the miss) in our 1-0 win in Sept 1971. See description in the reports http://www.bounder.friardale.co.uk/Match Reports/1971/19710925.jpg

Ian Bryson rounding Chesterfield's keeper Mick Leonard right in front of the Blades fans but his finish hit the post in our 2-1 defeat at Saltergate in March 1989 (see 4 mins 42 secs)

Don Givens missed penalty in the 85th minute to send us down to the 4th division !

He didn't miss. It was on target and saved by the goalkeeper. Mind you, it was hit with such tremendous power that the goalkeeper could have run around the pitch 3 times and still got back to his line in time to save it.

Interesting clip that, I was at that game and it brought back some good memories, even though we lost on the day. One thing I find interesting is how much the game has changed in a relatively short space of time. If you look at the state of that pitch, or the melee of that tackle about 2 minutes in, neither of these things are part of today's game. That pitch would probably now be considered "unplayable" and that melee would have never been allowed to continue as it did and players would have been sent off.

I know those muddy pitches weren't conducive to good flowing football, but they certainly added to the entertainment with the slide tackles and ball getting stuck under foot and the mistakes that came from that. Similarly it was fun to watch the tackles flying in like that. A proper man's game back then - and not a pair of gloves or lycra shorts to be seen.

Can't believe their bloke only gets a yellow for that tackle on 5mins33

I'd forgotten that, but it doesn't surprise me! Bit of a cranky player that lad, but was good entertainment.
Do you remember Nirmals restaurant on West Street?
Simon Stainrod had a letter in the window there for years, declaring his love for the food.. He wrote "up the Blowls", explaining he likes both teams having played for both.
I liked him at the Lane.

I recall a real sitter missed by James Beattie in 2008, v Southampton at the Lane.
Refereed by the Indian bloke with a yellow turban, a Mr Singh.
The Southampton fans sang 'that's why we let you go' @t Beattie.

That miss really pissed my dad off. He said 'He's not a bad player but his trouble is he thinks he's Tony Currie and hel'll never be anywhere near Currie as long as he's got hole in his arse.'

Paul Williams in our play off final second leg against Bristol City was a good one, unusual only because he had two swipes at it from about a yard out and still missed!

Just came on to post that. We signed the 'wrong' Paul Williams if I recall correctly. Inexplicably he went on to do quite well after he left us.

I could have sworn that was at the BL End?

Ade Akinbyi for Wolves at the Kop end.

He feigned injury straight after, but I reckon he was just embarrassed :)

That's the one I remember and the chants of what a waste of money! I love him now though! Worth every penny for that goal v the Pigs!

Chesterfield missed a very easy chance to put them 2 up tonight. Dont know the name of the player
