One up front next season

McGoldrick could be capable of playing the lone striker role. He's developing into that sort of player - very impressively.

Two behind a striker is an option we need to properly give ourselves next season.
Didzi is 30 and to play as a lone striker is very hard work
Hes been playing that role for
the R of l so has the experience.
We would need a younger player to slot in that role as well to take some pressure off Didzi.
Burnout would be a big problem with him so plan ABC would be important.
Evolution is taking place with our method of playing we are a different animal to the one that won league1.Chiefly due to player recruitment which .has seen our quality improve
but there are subtle changes taking place as the quality improves on the pitch, I'm sure Wilder knows we have to get more quality in to continue the evolution process of the team.

We were effectively playing one up.front in every game didsy played as he dropped deep and became a fifth midfielder

He's in fantastic physical condition now and in a 46 game season only got stronger as it went on.

I'm confident he'll be able to do the lone role if required - with the right support, at least. He could become a '9 and a half', as they say.

I thought we had to sign 2 strikers who can lead the line but on second thoughts we could get away with just 1, due to McGoldrick.

Ricky, I think that we have to be very careful how we view McG's season. I'd say not in isolation, but as part of the last 5 years of his career and then make a decision about his future performance at a higher level, and what we should expect from him. Like Michael Brown in 02/03 or Leon in 17/18, are they blips?

You mean 6th or 4th.

We played with a 3 or 5 man midfield depending on how you view it.

I think McGoldrick's different. He's evolved as a player, he's clicked, he's staying fit and playing under management that will keep demanding high standards from him with a good work rate as a pre-requisite. He seems to be held in very high regard by his team mates too. And going into the PL for the first time in his career at the age he is, he'll want to make the most of it and won't drop his standards.

The reality is we could find fault with all of our players but despite the general consensus of not wanting to ‘do a Fulham’ there seems to be a clamour to replace all of our players (with the exception of those that are now so golden their faults are forgotten, like JOC, who was ‘playing shit’ for the first month or so or Stevens who was first on most people’s ‘get rid’ list at the start of the season).

We’ve got limited resources. We’ll be supplementing our strike force, not replacing it.

McGoldrick drifts into midfield far too often. Doesn't seem suited to the lone striker role.
Duffy and McGoldrick behind a striker works but not totally convinced about their defensive work so could end up being a choice between the two and a more defensive midfielder being used.

We'll sign a centre forward to be first choice. We may sign a second centre forward. But if we don't, McGoldrick could cover that role, as well as probably being first choice in one of the other two.

He should be starting for Ireland tonight, as well as Egan and Stevens hopefully, so it's worth watching in case he plays up front on his own again.
