2/3 the price and 1/2 the size of normal programme. Bargain.

One thing that was very right was the performance. We were excellent throughout. Quality passing with purpose and dynamic persistent pressing when they occasionally had the ball.

What a pleasure to comprehensively outplay the opposition from start to finish.

There were some excellent individual performances but Scoogs stole the show. Back to his best and I ❤️ Him.

Good to hear it Pinchster, and just as good to learn that the wee man was on form UTB

Didn't we almost concede two in the first half?

Mark Howard made an excellent double save. That's his job. It's good defending not 'almost conceding'.

They hit the post. That happens routinely in football. Get it on target next time pal, then you might 'almost miss'.

Why is it 'missing chances' for us but 'almost scoring' for the opposition? Could it be the Bladesfans' Way?

You clapping bastard ;)

We always seem to do that to me. Just lack goals

I once went to my doctor with some unsightly rash on my private parts. I was taken aback when he asked me about my masturbatory habits. "Mad and frantic or leisurely and relaxed?" he asked. "The latter, but..." I replied rather curiously.

"I've got it" he said with a self-satisfied smile...."You're suffering from slow hand clap"

Also very moaner-lite on the Kop, which added to the feel-good factor.

Very much a stroll in the park, but it could have been different if it wasn't for a superb double save from Howard and a stroke of luck as Pinchy has already mentioned.

Sounds like we’re in that transition period, last season, our success in the cup came by giving teams the ball and letting them play in front of us. This works well against so called better teams (so called because we matched or bettered most of them tactically). However, it seems (can’t say for certain as I’m just picking up snippets from trusted sources at the moment) that we’re starting to really turn into a footballing side. It seemed last night that we were retaining the ball well, particularly in the first two thirds and creating better chances, although Keith ‘I don’t like to be too critical but…’ Edwards was saying that our decision making in the final third could be much better.

It seemed a few weeks back that we were getting results, but the performances were poor and we were giving the ball away a lot. Now we seem to be getting better on that front.

I think the precaution is that it was only Crewe, don’t want to be disrespectful to them, but it seems that we’ve caught them at a time when they’re struggling a lot. I hope they pull their form around again as they’re a likeable club and they still maintain their ethos of bringing good youngsters through, so they have to be admired in many ways.

Out of interest, how was the movement up front last night? It seemed that Murphy started through the middle and had a decent game and JCR switched with him later on. But not only this, how did JCR, Flynn, Scoogs and Murphy do when we attacked? Were they getting into the box fast enough and were they anticipating the pass by making the runs? I have no problem with the 4-5-1 or 4-6-0 formations so long as the midfield 3 or 4 make those runs into the box to support the attack. Ideally though I’d like a hold up man, perhaps Higdon will start to make his presence felt.

Did Jose and Diego have any impact?

Looking forward to see us play again when I’m back in December, the cup game v Saints will be a really tough test though.

Good all round performance. Only down side was some of the decisions around the box. Scoogs, Reed and Murphs all looked for another pass in and around the box when a striker would have had a shot!

Not sure if I have mentioned this before but we are a couple of decent strikers (possibly one if supported well by an injury free McNuts and Higgy) away from ripping this division apart.

We have solved the CB issue if Bash plays there with McEv or McG - not sure Paddy is required beyond December.

Could do with Wallace getting fitter and not breaking down as much - hopefully this will come.

Murph is back to form from last season.

Scougs and Flynn started the season injured and are only now getting back to the level they were last season.

Doyle has just gone about his business in a quiet manner and shown the character he has, once again.

Only thing missing is the finishing.
Once that part of the jigsaw is complete, watch us rise and rise.

It's so tantalisingly close you can just about taste it.

I'll be so happy if the "One thing very wrong at tonight's game" is the program price, every time we play.

This pressing of the opposition is something quite new. Noticed it for the first time in the first round at Crewe. Not convinced we will do it every time, but it seems to be used when the opposition are deemed to be a "footballing" side as against a team that they themselves press.

Interesting times with NC and the management team - they seem to instil a certain method of play depending on who the opposition is.
Long may it continue as we seem to be coming a very professional club.

UTB

I know there are a good few games coming up close together,England were playing last night etc but i was disappointed in the crowd of less than 6,000 for an FA Cup game,I estimated around 10-12,000 on the way to BDTBL.

I think you provide your own explanation there, although personally I'd sooner listen to pro-celebrity snail-racing on the radio than watch "England".

People have to make choices. I think about 20,000 will choose the Oldham game on Saturday, a magnificent turnout.
