One of the worst things I've seen at a match

The smoke cannister was for the first goal, the injured kid was after the second. I know this because I got hit by the object.

The kid was sat very close to us and somehow ended up a fair distance away, it was a real onslaught of bodies overjoyed at scoring a goal, not sure what happened to him at the bottom though. The flare landed almost next to us and a bloke calmly picked it up and got rid of it. The people what use these need to know how to use them or stop using them at all and chucking them at human beings, it’s going to land them in some shit one day.

It was the kids dad that said there was.

Ok, if the kids dad says there was a smoke bomb so be it. I was about 10 yards away and personally didn’t see it. On the other hand dozens of mainly young people rushing forward en mass to celebrate a goal is highly risky for those in their path. The Steward to his credit had to make a quick decision which he did. Not sure if it was the right one.

There's a reason I used 'apparently' as I obviously didn't see it myself :)

kid looked ok to me. Parents need to appreciate the risks when taking their children to football matches. It was an excited crowd celebrating a goal that led to a surge. I didnt see a smoke bomb and I was near where the boy was. Seemed hysterical to be honest and the steward overreacted to the situation carrying him out like he’d been shot

When you've had kids... WHEN YOU'VE HAD KIDS then you'll understand...

Apparently Liverpool college are offering places on their safe use of smoke bombs course, have to be quick though as it's filling up quickly! :D

Why can’t they put serious organisation into allocating tickets in away ends. It wouldn’t have been hard splitting part of the stand away from the front as designated for families

It'll still be someone getting hit by a canister or flare.

The way to stop this behaviour is by self policing it. Ie some of the older proper hard men who don't agree with it ought to have a word in the ear of a couple of the young kids tellimg them to stop it...preferably when they arent backed up by all their mates...ps I'm not volunteering as I don't fit the above description !

I blame the players...if they didn’t score, we wouldn’t have to celebrate and potentially cause a surge. And to celebrate right in front of us! That’s just inciting crowd violence.
Seriously though, the lad looked a bit shook up and sore after the incident so hope the little fella is ok and hasn’t been put off attending future matches.
On another note...what about the dangers of lanky fans and plastic seats - my shins are a right state after Leon’s goal and the blood n pain was for naught

No thanks necessary, and your right, not turning up is an option, one I have exercised at a few games, not that I should be put in that position, but the safety off my 10 year old is more impoertant then any game off football, but that’s just me.

You would hope that all seater stadiums are more than enough for the safety of your child.

Safe standing with rail seats would make surges pretty well impossible.... just saying

Don't know if anyone else saw it but after our second goal there was a young boy who must have got caught up in the surge, who was being carried in a hurry by a steward along the front of the stand.

It looked like the medical staff had a look at him to the right of the stand and fortunately he was able to limp away.

Made me feel sick as fuck but glad he walked away from it. GLTTL.

That wasn't Brooks after all then.....few.
