The rules around taking goal kicks when attackers are still in the box are a bit open to interpretation too. But the ref stopped play twice in the first half when they decided on a quick goal kick and almost played themselves into trouble.

The rule is simple, attacking players must be outside the box when the goal kick is taken. Twice in the first half, he blew because one of ours was in the box when they took the kick and that was fair enough.

Towards the end of the game, a Swans player was in our box as Wes was about to take a goal kick and he told Wes to wait to allow the Swans player to get out of the box so he didn’t have to penalise him. As we were winning at the time, Wes should have taken the kick quickly, knowing the ref would blow and waste a bit of time. Having said that, today’s ref probably wouldn’t have noticed and would have allowed play on
