On this day - a double hat trick!

September 17th 1988 Blades 6 Chester City 1, with Deano and Agana getting a hat trick. No Blades player has scored a hat trick since Ched Evans against Chesterfield in 2012. We are overdue one, come on Billy!

Same here, but remembered for good reasons. We realised we were serious promotion contenders that day.

No. There were 2 hat tricks in the 11-2 win over Cardiff in 1926 (Harry Johnson and David Mercer).

I think that Edwards and Hatton each got a hat trick against Nortampton when we beat them 7-3 at the Lane. I was there but my memory for detail isn't what it used to be!

No. Edwards scored our only Hattrick that night (and indeed the only one that season).

I little aside to this after the third goal to complete Deane's hat trick the ball burst and the Tony Agna went on to score his hat trick all with the second ball.

After the game Dave Bassett played a little joke on the then still young and naive Deane when he solemly presented Agana with the match ball he scored his hat trick with and presented Deane with the burst one saying it was league regulations that it had to be the actual ball and sorry but there was nothing he could do about it.

Deane's face was apparently a picture and got all the way to his car with the burst ball under his arm before he was called back and given a pristine one.

Yep, happy to say i witnessed this game. I was only ten, funny how you don't realise the significance of things when you're that age - I imagine I thought players got hat tricks in each half all the time!
