Much as I enjoyed seeing the Owls go down, it shouldn't hide the fact that the Blades have underachieved this season.

How much better it would have been if we could have at least made the play-offs.

Still, let's make the most of the Owls' misfortune whilst we can (and maybe there's more to come if they can't sort their finances out).

A sensible and balanced view, which is why it has no place on here today Broomhill..!

Actually, I was thinking that it is Chairman Lee's first kept promise. He promised to get them out of the CCC....and he has.

How funny does the investors presentation and Straffords 'Business Plan' look now? He has been quoted as saying that relegation is not that a big thing. I think I'd wait and see how big the bank manager thinks it is. Only 9,000 ST's sold. Visiting clubs bringing half CCC numbers. Average crowds around 15k. That could be a drop of £2.5m in gate revenue alone and another £2m less budget from being in a lower division. How much of the 9k ST money has already been spent to cover the attendance shortfall this year? I'm glad I dont have to present the 'new' business plan to the Co-op. The cash flow forecast might need a bit of work...

Actually I'm feeling quite smug today. Not only can we dance on the grave of the once-mighty Owls, my 'second team,' (Boston United) gained promotion from the Unibond league on Saturday and will be in (I think) the Blue Square North next season. Three years ago they were within a whisker of going under after flirting with the Football league for a couple of seasons and getting heavily into debt. They managed to restructure, but continued to struggle and were banished to the 7th tier last year.
A new management team last summer (including former Blade, Rob Scott) sacked almost the entire squad and rebuilt with part timers and a few loanees. They did so well that I was tempted back to watch them for the last three games of the season and thoroughly enjoyed seeing an attacking team, full of confidence, and scoring goals. The banter from the terraces is just as good as in the higher leagues and it doesn't cost a fortune to get in.

If Boston continue to progress and the Owls go into freefall, in a few years' time we might see them in he same league, by which time the Owls would be known as 'Brightside and Carbrook', having handed over Hillsborough to the Co-op bank, and moved to a smaller ground, as befits their new status.

We can all dream...

according to porktalk they have a budget to season ticket sales calculator on "our wed****ay" that puts their budget currently at £3.5m

so if its true they currently have £1.5m to completely revamp their squad ,given that they have less contracted players than us now then i can see any saleable asset being sold on now to up the playing budget and not very much coming in the other way in terms of transfer fees and wages

looking at their squad only grant ,beevers and tudgay and perhaps jhonson would fetch any money in ,how much for the lot ? £3m tops ? not looking good is it ?

This talk of smugness reminds me... I bet Richard Wood is chuckling. A large signing-on fee, better wages, a decent stadium and Championship football.

1-0 Richard Wood!

Sensible and balanced. Just like when I mentioned how poor Bristol City were the day we beat them. Never mind, (I aint bitter, honest) I totally agree with your comments about Wendy next season. They have no derbies, no big games, no people paying on the day and I don't see how they can service the debt and keep a decent squad for that division.
