5 O'Clock yesterday, I thought the ref was crap, we really mullered them and should have won by 2 or 3, and they are not as good as their position suggests.

On reflection, and a few Blades Player reviews later, we barely troubled their keeper and only played in front of them. They were very robust (!), but we would have applauded the commitment the other way round. The ref took most big decisions conservatively and only got 1 badly wrong - the offside before Madden hit the post.

Our defending looked crap before their goal but Madden seemed to anticipate a deflection before it happened.

Overall, we played well enough to win and they played solidly enough to hold us.

I'm only pleased that they didn't win it with an offside goal as that had the potential to negate a season's efforts.

As we were, reset, move on.

Not saying you are wrong but you say our defending was crap before their goal, do you mean the build up? In which case it was or do you mean the first half? Because our defence hardly had anything to do, our play in the mid field was very good but as others have said our ball into the box was disappointing and goals scored was disappointing, the approach play deserves so much more, however how many times have all said this this season and more worryingly how many more times are we going to say it?

We are 5 points clear of the current 2nd best team in the division we are winning possession/shots/corner stats every game, we are the top scorers in the league and playing some of the best football many of us have seen at the Lane for years.

The OP and many other posters since yesterday are just nit picking.

We are going up as Champions.

Really? REALLY?

In reply to Boxer Blade - I meant that originally I couldn't understand how Madden ran unchallenged to the ball while we stood still. But if you watch the video carefully, the cross deflects and we are moving out towards its original path, but he runs in and it deflects straight to him - almost surreal but certainly not our fault.

In reply to LS26 - exactly my point - we're not unlucky, you get what you deserve, sometimes I feel unlucky through my red and white specs but we are top for a reason, move on and move up.

It seems like every shot the opponent has on target goes in
Every 20 good chances we make we score a goal

You can look at the statistics of all of our games.
If we have conceded one goal it was because the opponent had one shot on target
If we concede two goals it's because they had two on target
Everything seems to go in against us and has done for ages

Our problem is simply down to quality of delivery.

We have a top quality midfield with Coutts and Fleck....good enough in my opinion for at least the championship. They do their job.
Then we have Freeman and Lafferty. Lafferty is very neat and tidy going forward and retaining the ball, but his final ball lets him down. His success rate is probably around 30%. Freeman is slightly better, but yesterday he had numerous chances from superb positions to find a killer pass or cross and failed.
Duffy....got in some great positions and had a keeper to beat on his strongest foot from 14 yards and missed the target, also some poor crosses from excellent positions.

Obviously they make up for it in other aspects of play but if they could get more consistency then obviously they would be playing much higher now. They need to get better or find they are replaced if we go up.

Add to that, we lack a genuine striker. A player with pace and power who can create something from nothing, beat a man etc etc. Top of the list to buy if we go up....we need our own Callum Wilson...Andre Gray find.

we had plenty of chances and didn't hit the target enough

We switched of twice and were punished once

should have two more points than we have, need to keep playing the way we are and the goals and wins will come in most games

A few Diehard Dinos are secretly wishing it will all unravel in the hope that we will abandon football and return to their beloved but grotesque Sunday League alehouse anti-football. It's almost tangible...

Ah the notorious S2 straw men again.

Well done Pinchy for valiantly taking up the trusty sword of justice and shield of truth, against these really bad men.
