How 'funny' to think we could've possibly had Bogle and Matty Taylor for under £1m...

That would've even been a partnership.
Hmmm and even if that partnership hadn't worked out we might well have been able to sell them on for at least the same a year, what was there to lose.Suspect Wigan and Bristol City had similar thoughts.

If I remember correctly the most recent published first team squad wages are about £7 million, current first team squad size is about 26, so trimming say 4 fringe players out of the squad liberates about £1 million. Still need to pay any newcomers wages of course but puts wages/squad size and transfer fees into context. The former dominates and removes funds for the latter.

Selling him on for at least what we paid is not always the case.Look at our own McNulty didn't we sign him for about £125,000 he'll probably go for nothing in the summer.
I get what you are saying and I would sooner we were looking at young up an coming players, but as with everything there's no guarantee you would sell at a profit or get your money back.

Strange that he's only signed a 2 and a half year contract.

I see he got 2 for Wigan last night v Norwich, they'll sell him for £5m to a premiership side in 12 months time

One was a lovely free kick. He addressed the ball as if to clip a shot over the wall, but opened up his foot at the last second and sent it down the goalie's side. Hook, line, sinker, float, maggots, the lot....

Can't believe Wigan got him. For no more than £1.5m it's no gamble at all.

No gamble Bryan Robson would probably have thought! Wigan are still receiving parachute payments are making a bad job of it!

Wigan Athletic signing Bogle wasn't a risk.

Still receiving Parachute Payments, they still have one more to collect.

He scores the goals that keep them in the Championship, they receive £5m, should they get relegated, they still receive a £1m plus they've also got a forward who could be potentially the reason why they get promotion.

No club should receive any PL payments when they're NOT in that League.

As discussions go this seems pointless. Wilder knows the facts that matter to him, he knows what he's prepared to spend and the type of player he feels we need to achieve promotion. We've got an excellent set of options in midield, of course the defence needs strengthening but for now we'll get by, and as for the forwards I think we have the players to deliver the goals that will send us to the Championship.

I thought it was a poor move for Bogle to go there.

I can't see Wigan staying up, and they are a bland club.

I thought they were relegated in 2013 so this is the last year of parachute payments?

But haven't they just sold Wildschutt for quite a lot of money? It makes sense to invest some of that in another player whose value is likely to go up. If he carries on like he started he'll be worth a lot more than they paid for him.

Would we still fancy splashing out on this guy? I assume he has another 2 years or so on his contract, and Wigan would fancy him to be the top goalscorer in League 1 so it'd take a fair bit of monies. Not sure myself.

That ship has sailed for me. He looked OK but nothing special at championship level and I think he will be part of Wigan's immediate plans. There will be better out there to interest us.

Tend to agree. He scored a hat trick in one of his first games for them and I thought he'd tear it up from there and save Wigan from relegation. He didn't do much from then on and that definitely didn't happen.

Worth another chance in the Championship in a better team than Wigan IMO. But not sure we should go for him given how much he could cost. I'd rather spend £1m+ on him than Gregory though.

Wigan will strongly fancy him and Will Grigg to get an absolute hatful next season.

Wigan are reportedly prepared to sell Bogle to fund a move for Eoin Doyle. Was on fire for Grimsby albeit in conference / league 2 and got 3 in 12 in a poor side last season.

Could Wilder bring out the best in him at this level?

Wigan would be absolutely mental to do that. Doyle's 29 and has gone off the boil a bit, Bogle's 24 and would be great in L1.

But if they want to sell him for no more than what they paid, and they have no basis to expect more, then I'd be happy for us to go for him.

It's not like there's an abundance of good striker options on the market.

Only paid about £850k didn't they?

I gave up on Doyle a few years back, I've no idea how Bogle did last season but I'd still love to sign him just because I love the song fans sing for him.
Seriously though, I'd snap him up.
Even if he cost the best part of 1m.

Sure it wasn't more than £1m. Grimsby have a sell on clause though which could bump the price up a bit.

I'd be happy to pay around £1m. Bit of a punt but he could look very different playing in a half decent attacking team.

He's one of those who could be worth a fortune after a few good months in the Championship. Even if he went and got 25 goals in L1 he'd be worth £2-3m, which just highlights how daft Wigan would be to want to sell him.

It's quite possible that we'll be back in for him IMO. Wilder would fancy his chances of getting the best out of him, he'll probably be within our price range and as I said, there aren't too many good options to choose from.

We have five/six strikers to fill possibly two striking roles which is enough for injury cover and game rotation,so another striker in Bogle's mould not needed imv.

We have two genuine centre halfs to fill three (3-5-2) defensive roles, this is the area which needs recruiting by at least two,i dont include Basham in the mix even tho he filled in admirably, but we all saw how Championship class striker Evans turned him iniside out last season,Wilders words.

Got to get this area sorted and settled.
