As I've repeatedly said since he signed for us, Clarke will be a mistake signing. Especially on a 3 yr deal.

There is a reason them lot over there refer to him as "agent Clarke" !

Couldn't agree more, I'm just relieved we have other options up front. I think Clarke is awful, immobile and looks disinterested.

God only knows what he'll be like once he's stopped trying to make a good impression :(

Yes, because they're unfunny moronic cunts who can't come up with any new material.

Well done them.

There's a reason why Cov and Bury supporters are incredibly jealous of us for having him in our squad. And it's actually... believe it or not... based on experience of him playing in this league.

Your first paragraph could equally have applied to Bladey Bill in the first few games.

As to the second, all the antecedent evidence at this level suggests that he'll be scoring plenty of goals.

Your right. I'm sold. The above is bloomin marvellous and proves the Bury and Cov fans are spot on.

The day I rely on the views of Bury & Cov fans opinions is the day I know it's time to stick to tiddlywinks !!

No matter how good, mediocre or crap Leon Clarke is this season, signing a 31 year old on a 3 year contract is still fucking stupid.

As for Bogle, we will almost certainly have missed out on signing an up and coming player for next to nothing now unless we stump a decent fee up in January, that is of course if CW is even interested in him, which you think he could be with his lower league experiences.

Bogle had a trial at Bournemouth whilst in the Championship which didn't come of anything but that was over three years ago and he was still young and raw. He was bought by Grimsby for about 20k, we'd have probably got him for around 100k tops?

He can dribble, pass, bring players into play and also helps others out tremendously around him, he is the sort of player us Blades should certainly be after, an up and coming player on a three year contract not a 31 year old on a three year contract, unfortunately that ship has probably sailed.

Do you want a tenner on which one scores the most goals this year then Pinchy?

I'm convinced that once he settles, if he has a run of games, he'll get goals. His stats in this league of recent years strengthens the argument.

A 3 year deal does seem a bit much to me, but unlike previous regimes I have faith in the decisions of the manager.

I've just watched the Wimbledon game back on Bladesplayer (yes I have Bladesplayer now, didn't realise it was only £38 for a year) and Clarke's all round play was decent, better than Sharp's. He should've got a shot off with the chance he had but overall he did quite well considering he was often isolated.

He just needs something to break for him, a league goal will take the pressure off and more will follow. But it'll be hard for him if he's only playing the odd game and getting a few minutes here and there.

His critics should also remember that he offers a different, physical threat to the opposition.

In my eyes he's our only real threat in the air.

Well, Billy has a pretty good start and Leon ain't in the team at the moment, so I want very decent odds if you want to tempt me....

Seeing how ruthless Wilder has been so far I wouldn't be surprised if old Leon was playing elsewhere come January. Hasn't impressed me at all so far, looks exactly the part at the minute - journeyman that doesn't give a fuck.

Goals per minute?

Just need an independent statistician to work it all out, since I can't see Clarke getting many full games.

Actually thinking about it, that's not a good idea, if old Leon lumbers on for five minutes and gets a tap in, that's the equivalent of Sharp scoring 18 goals. I'll have to get back to you :)

I think he could get goals depending on the team we put out but him and Sharp didn’t appear to work. I can only see him getting a run alongside Done or Lavery (which I think he needs if he’s going to do well) if Sharp gets injured. Unless that happens, he’s a sub for me.

I wasn’t unhappy when we signed him mind. I said I’d prefer COG or Akinde but thought he’d still be good. I might now change that to a decent member of the squad.

Clarke looked far more up for it and bothered than most of our players in the first games.

Was only left out due to injury and Billy got lucky as I reckon he could have been the one getting dropped.

Did Billy get lucky or did The Blades get lucky? :)

Is everything Clarkes fault then this season? Now Long isn't around, ofc.

Just want to make sure I know where to aim my pitchfork at the next match.

I think you are safe with blaming Clarkey, just hurl abuse at him for wearing a groove into the bench with his arse. ;)

Clarke hasn't had a proper run in the side yet and the injury won't have helped him, but he's not been quite at it has he?

It's hard to explain, not exactly playing bad like Brayford did...like his heart wasn't really in it, but not really fully up for it and giving it 100% either. I'm sure Wilder must be on his case because he's not done enough yet when he has played to warrant a start in my opinion.

I think Clarkes contribution has been good but he's missed a few sitters. He wins the ball in the air and holds it up/lays it off better than the other strikers we've seen so far. I think it's more to do with having legs in the side and stretching play and that's why Done is chosen over him. But if we are up against a big back four I'd go with Clarke.

As for the 3 year contract - I don't think you can say about that unless we know the facts. For example - what if (for sake of rough figures) he wanted £8k a week over two years but we offered less per week but took it over 3 years so the overall deal was worth more to him? When a player is nearing the end of their career these longer contracts become more attractive to them because it's guaranteed income for longer. And for us as a club, it keeps our costs down in the short term and if he does well and another club come in for him then we get more compensation as they have to pay up his remaining contract as part of the deal.

You'd not considered this angle maybe?

Good points CB, and if Clarke's contributions help towards achieving promotion then what price do you put on this?

I think if he'd buried that header against Bolton early on from Hussey's free kick he might be having a very different season. He's missed chances whereas Bury fans saw him as an ice cool finisher. Confidence and momentum play a big part. Right now, Sharp and Done have that whilst Clarke doesn't

Really like the look of both of these 2. Was touting Akinde in the summer and having now seen a bit of Bogle I look the look of him too. Big lads but also quick which in the lower leagues is enough to be very dangerous.

I would think we would need to lose some of our current payers first - do not see this happening.
