Never mentioned you Herbert, yet you miraculously appear from nowhere.....make note; put dog whistle safely away.

Ah, OK then. It's just that it wouldn't be the first time you've been indirectly insulting and confrontational.... or 'combative'.

That's ok mate. As I wrote, passion has it's place, but sometimes it seems hogtied to a point of view that won't tolerate anything that differs from their own position.....it's as if being a minority of one takes precedence over everything else, so perhaps it's just best to allow the blinkered to go their predictably combative way while the more sober and considered amongst us accept the world the way it's meant to be.

Including football played on the Desso, not in the clouds?....

Cerebus apart from a couple of local teams where I live all my opinion of players is based on TV highlights ! However I ve just got a gut feel about Wyke and he's the right age. I'm desperate for us not to sign another late 20s early 30s striker to add to all our others (Sharp, Clarke,Hanson, Evans) so any youngster is going to be a gamble

Yep, that's sensible tbh. We need a bit of yoof up front.

Do your know, i hadn't realised that the kid shares the same colour of skin as Brian Deane when I made the point of him reminding me of BD.....thanks for pointing that out as I must have missed that....

In my earlier post, I mentioned that he reminded me of a young BD in that the lad looks naturally two footed, has a bit of pace and power, but looks very raw. A bit like what BD did when we got him from Doncaster back in 1988. The point i was making was that he looks a bit raw around the edges but seems to have plenty of potential to become a really good player. Don't recall mentioning the colour of anyone's skin in my original post as I simply dont care. I judge footballers on their footballing ability alone. Perhaps you should read people's posts before jumping to any sort of illogical conclusion.

You also mention that 'as nothing else in the video resembless anything to do with Brian Deane'. Well in your opinion maybe not. But in my opinion yes there are 'footballing' similarities there hence my comment. Entirely your perogative to disagree with my initial comment but your opinion does not invalidate mine, nor does it make yours correct.

I'm not trying to invalidate your comment and I don't know anything about this kid. I didn't see any resemblance to Deane myself from that clip. He looks more of a maker than a taker would be one observation based on that. I remember the young Brian Deane when he first joined us. I thought his legs looked like they didn't belong to him - he was gangly and awkward and very raw. But he was a big lad and he disturbed defences with his physical presence. Again, I didn't see that in the video clip - but I'll have another look!

Chance to watch him on Sky now at wembley, plays well could add another mil or 2 to his price

On that showing he wouldn't get in our U/23s never mind the first team.

Is it a bit unfair to judge him on that 1 showing.. I've already said I'd prefer proven not potential for the new season and he wouldn't be in my list but to be young player of the year means you must have something

They just get better and better. David Cotterill is now officially the greatest player of all time. Nick Blackman is closing in on Pele's 1000 goal record.

Again, can you point out where anyone has actually said that?

I've just got back from Wembley, (went in the Blackpool end with my mate who is a Seasider) and I can only say I wasn't impressed, as others have said. I was looking out for him too knowing our reported interest. He found space well and drifts into decision positions but apart from that I wasn't impressed. Certainly not worth £2m on that showing. Would rather us sign Graham Carey for free.

The two of you and half a dozen others...

Aye it was weird been at Wembley and 70,00 empty seats. As you'll know the majority of Blackpool fans boycott their games until the owners leave.

This is what a seven figure role of the dice gets you these days. Could end up being worth 15 million, or could end up back in league two.

You say that but it tends to be more of the former nowadays. Che Adams had a decent last season but didn't exactly set the world on fire and Birmingham have still been rejecting 5 million bids. That means he's more than tripled in value since we sold him!

A player like Ollie Watkins who won young player of the year will probably do the same. Even if he only features in a handful of games. He could even be a complete flop next season but that title alone pretty much guarantees in today's game that they'll at the very least recoup their costs.

The way prices for players is going up these days, you could pretty much buy anyone and still make a profit in a years time

Nail on head...hopefully we will have realised that the next time we sell one of our upcoming youngsters.

True, but the same could be said for Ched. Bangs twenty in this season, what's he worth then? The game has gone bat shit crazy. I'm always advocating gambling on these young kids because the risk reward is so high.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. If Ched after the season he just had (I.e. decent but nothing too special) ends up still being worth triple his value then imagine what a player would be if he bangs in 20 like you said. As you mentioned in your post the game has gone mental now and the risk is practically nonexistent. With players like these after a season at worst you have an utter flop who keeps their value. By which time you cut your losses, sell to someone else and repeat. At best they end up going to the premier league for 15m+

It's a smart signing for Brentford.

If he scores 10 goals he'll be worth £60m this time next year at this rate.

Brentford did it with Scott Hogan, signed for about 800k, he did his cruciate ligament twice, and they still went on to sell him for £8m.

The rewards on offer for just a brief good spell in the Championship are beyond belief. Signings like this are becoming very safe investments.
