I genuinely don't get it...….we appear to be every other punters favorites to go down yet we have strengthened in all areas yet Norwich, who didn't exactly walk the league, will be OK with virtually the same squad that got them promoted.

Norwich will get absolutely tonked week in and week out if they defend how they did last year in the Prem and surely they cannot rely on Pukki et al to save them with so many 98th minute winners....

Norwich are playing the sentimental card of “We trust the players that got us promotion”

I can understand that to a degree. The reason we’ve had to invest to the extent we have done reflects:
  • 3 of our key players in Sharp, McGoldrick and Duffy being a year older and in need of upgrade, despite them certainly making up roles in the squad
  • Moving on plenty of backup players deemed not got enough and upgrading on them
  • Being unable to be as reliant on loans for filling out the squad.
We’re almost certainly going to line up with the same 8 in the back and middle of the pitch, with only the forward 3 roles likely to be different. It probably looks to an outsider like we’ve gone more for a Fulham revamp than retaining what worked based on the amounts spent, but looking at the detail it’s only really the top end of the pitch where it’ll be noticeably different. That’s what we needed not only this season but for the long term.

Norwich struck me as being a bit younger and loan-dependent as we were too last year.

Norwich are playing the sentimental card of “We trust the players that got us promotion” Risky, a few injuries could make it a long season, although most transfer strategies of promoted teams have their disadvantages. Their also probably aware of the mess they got themselves into last time when they threw money at it. I for one think Chris is doing a brilliant job of bringing in young talent from the Championship in the hope they can make the step up if not A) we have a bloody dangerous championship side B) Expensive players to make the club money. McBurnie being one of them. UTB!!
No room for sentimentality in football (from a player angle) just have to ask their agents....!

Completely agree. I watched an interview with Stuart Webber at the end of the season explaining how they have no money to spend because they did it all wrong the last time they went up. I can't see them making a dent in the PL this year. We've levelled up so much in terms of individual players and assuming we maintain our style of play, I think we'll do okay. Completely agree, can't see Pukki doing anything. I think they have some talented footballers but they'll walk at the end of the season when they're relegated.

But haven't they got a foreign manager ?

I agree LoughboroBlade that our circumstances are vastly different to Norwich in terms of the age of players and number of loans the desire to replace/improve upon them as been smartly executed by the backroom staff. However I still don’t think Norwich have quality backup like we now seemingly have neither do I believe their defence is good enough to rely on last minute equalisers/winners, they will have to absorb pressure this season before dominating many teams. Good luck to them I’d much prefer other teams in the premier league to struggle.

Has McBurnie finished his elaborate, herding sheep into a training ground goal past Henderson dressed has a farmer, entrance video yet?

Steve Cooper in his press conference 15 mins ago commenting on the recent transfer deals:

“Oli’s not quite done...I think he’s doing his medical and has done the formalities.”

“It’s a deal that’s been done by the player and first of all we have to wish him well. He’s a fantastic person and a really good player. We’re really proud of him.”

Really like the 'deal done by the player' part here - Shows some desire!

Interesting approach by Norwich though they have brought in two players from the Bundesliga and Roberts from Man City might do well.
Suspect they'll do better than people think.

Anyone know why Norwich have spent nowt??

I listened to Talksport the other day and they did a short slot focussing on the 3 newly promoted clubs having the local journalists giving feedback on their club.
I thought James Shield kind of talked us down....saying we can’t spend big so have no choice but to pick up bargains from the Championship.
He praised our team spirit and said he didn’t expect us to park the bus and thinks we will surprise a few and attack when the time is right.
Shield said we’d be in a battle with the bottom 6 group and mentioned the old cliche that if we finish 4th from bottom then it’s a success.

The local Norwich journalists then came on and when asked why they’ve hardly spent anything.

The reply was that Norwich were so good last season that they were almost always a step above Championship level teams. Therefore many NC fans think that this team might already be good enough to compete in the PL. He also said that Farke wants to stay loyal to his players and give them all a chance to prove themselves.
The journalist then said that signing no one takes the pressure off them and that many Norwich fans accept that they could easily be relegated.
He said Farke’s job is totally safe even if they are relegated and the plan is instant promotion back to the PL in 2 years time.

The presenter on Talksport said he was disappointed that NC seem to be already preparing for and almost accepting relegation.

When the Villa journalist came on he was very upbeat about Villa saying how they are very ambitious and are targeting a mid table finish in the 1st season.

Not so much a case of Norwich 'approaching' this transfer window in the way they have, to be truthful they've had little option than to act cautiously given their previous spending patterns. Sensible in some respects, but their supporters must wonder why, with what's ahead of them, they're mainly relying on the same players they had last season. In spite of how Farke is perceived I think he's a decent manager, so for their sake I hope he's capable of pulling rabbits out of hats.
