Thing is and this could be the difference between him and McBurnie is the Burke is nearly there just needs to start scoring. If he suddenly starts knocking them in McBurnie will look very over priced.

I just hope like someone said he is not this years Didzy as he could have had 4/5 by now.
McBurnie has always looked over priced! 🤨

You mean the one who we just smash balls up to and expect him to deal with?

McBurnie has never been and never will be a target man yet we insist on playing him as such.
NO The other 20 million pound striker that can’t score
Shit do u mean we have TWO 20 mill pound players that can’t score, we’re fucked 🤷‍♂️

Burkes pace is unbelievable... if he could finish he's an £80m plus player ...

Reminds me of Gareth bale when he gets into his stride if only he could play football
I said this yesterday but I likened him to a strong Vardy. If Burke had vardys finishing, Burke is a better all round player.

That's why Burke is playing for us and not a top end club

is it too late for him to work on finishing though? i’d imagine at his age, he’d be able to improve it marginally enough to make himself a regular epl starter

Hopefully it's not too late.
I said before the Man Utd game that he scares defenders and someone shot me down. He made the first goal against Man Utd. Won the free kick for Didzy's effort yesterday. Got in behind a few times and played a great ball to Stevens... But everybody forgets all of that and focuses on his miss.

He’s shown in the past that he can finish chances it’s about consistency and that certainly is something you can work on.

I also always forget he is a £15 million player and he was linked with world class football clubs throughout his youth... I just think of him as a cheap player we swapped with Robinson (what a deal that looks like now by the way!).

It definitely seemed that his reputation as a flop preceded him and It's amazing to think that now he is 23 years old, and he was largely written off already before he was 21.

He is already showing glimpses of his potential by getting into goal scoring and assist opportunities as you rightly point out... give this lad a season in the championship honing his finishing skills, and i think he will be a brilliant player for us

Anybody remember an advert on TV (I think that's what is was) with Andy Cole just whacking a ball into the net from different passes and positions? He started banging on about 'muscle memory' or some such bollocks, anyway it's this muscle memory BS we need to instill in Burke.

No. Look at Adama Traore. Clueless when he played for Boro, fast as fuck but no end product. IMO it’s something we have to get really good at, improving the players we sign. We know we can’t afford the finished article so whether we’re signing players from the championship or abroad, our coaching has to improve them and help them adapt to the rigours of the PL.

I don’t know development isn’t linear many would’ve said it was too late for DCL to take the kind of leap he did.

I agree with this, we have a policy of signing young players with big potential for the future. But... no point signing them if we aren't going to work on improving their potential properly.

We’ve got a fairly good record of doing this with the group who came through the leagues. I’d argue we’ve improve O’Connell, Basham, fleck, Duffy, baldock and Stevens. Some of those players took a while Stevens wasn’t good his first season and it took O’Connell a while in that league one season. I have faith in this coaching staffs abilities as teachers but it takes a bit of time.

Sorry I was meaning the U23 type players we been bringing in as of late. All those mentioned above apart from young Jack had been around the track a fair while.

Burke pretty much has no end product, but we look a better side with him in. Pace, power and he certainly confuses opposition defenders.

Yeah that’s true but theoretically there should be no difference in teach a 28 year old or a 20 year old.

If this lad had an end product he would legitimately be one of the most dangerous players on earth

Its time Wilder shows some faith in the lad. He's not cost £20+mil however the 2 guys that have, havent shown enough. Let him nail down a place. Decide where he's going to play and train him. Working on technique, positioning, clever attackiing player like Dunc Ferguson has with DCL at everton. work on players individually and ultimately the team will improve. we dont need to work on shape

To be fair to Burke I think his end product is decent when laying on opportunities for others, it's in front of goal where he has no composure. Here's hoping that if he does net one, it will settle him down and he might bag a few more.
Hopefully we persist with him - we stuck by Didzy last year despite the lack of goals because we appreciated his wider contribution to the team. I hope we offer Oli the same opportunity because we look far more dangerous when he starts.

His pace and vision are strong positives, but when it comes to shooting, I think he needs to aim wide of the posts, or over the bar, in order to have a chance of hitting the target.

His power and pace made a huge difference to the game today. Their defenders must have been terrified. I loved his dummy for the Bogle goal. And he is still only 23 of course, so a good possibility
of further improvement with his finishing.
It could happen at any point or not at all because it’s not technical he strikes the ball well enough it’s between his considerable ears.
