People on twitter saying we won’t be signing this guy as we have used up all ESC places (basically foreign players work permit)

However, there’s nothing saying we have used our ESC places on Caceras, Ukaki and Ngachackwu.

Management might still be deciding on who to use the ESC permits for.

He’s made 22 appearances as a full international I don’t think we’d need to use an ESC spot for this lad he’d likely just get a full blown conventional work permit.

Don’t think an international takes an ESC. Hasn’t Ukaki been called up.

Might be wrong

Full internationals don’t automatically qualify for a work permit. They still need 15 points by meeting certain criteria such as:

  • Strength of the league they’ve played in
  • % of league minutes played
  • Final league position
  • Domestic and European cup runs
  • % of international games played over the last 2 years.

The full internationals automatically getting a work permit is a sliding scale based on FIFA rankings:

Ranks 1-10 need to have played 30% of games in 24 months, Ranks 11-20 need 40%, Ranks 21-30 need 60%, Ranks 31-50 need 70% and >50 don’t automatically qualify for a work permit.

Nigeria are currently ranked 43, and Ukaki hasn’t played any international games in the last 2 years. Playing one game would give him zero points towards his 15 point target.
