This paragraph completely sums up this forum and the pond life that inhabit it. So you actually detested, not disliked, detested one of our own players? Well played you. No wonder the Lane is like a library on match days.
Whereas Prince Abdullah is great.

Well what does he deserve? he can barely manage a full season without getting injured in some way.

We won't be paying the best wages but we won't be paying the worst either. It will boil down to the signing on fee and that's where agents play their part. I expect with Wilder around many of the agents that thought they were getting a nice pay day on these renewals were in for a shock.
I’m not saying he deserves anything, although he’s not got a bad record in the championship despite his limitations in certain departments, injuries etc etc, this is what might have led him and his agent to think he was deserving of a decent contract offer?

All I’m saying is since McBurnie has had the contract offer on the table and left the club he hasn’t indicated to any Blades fan that he was signing and that was the crux of the initial post.

The contract was offered literally days before his contract ran out and it was derisory, there’s no wonder he’s waited for a better contract offer from someone and someone who wants him at their club.

He’s never given the impression he’d sign it either Bladesman , that idea has come from supposed itk plonkers off here and social media who are in fact after the attention and are completely oblivious as to what’s actually happening.

We move on to other targets and ones the club really want here, that’s key in all of this really.
I am not bothered one way or the other if he stayed or went ,what annoys me is once again it was left to drag on and on leaving us to fill yet another vacant space in the squad with just 3 weeks to go till the season starts . Someone either him or the club should have made a decision so we could move on without being rushed to find a replacement (Thats a laugh saying we could rush) .

Me too really, we’ve handled it all really badly, McBurnie hasn’t done anything wrong when you actually think about it, it’s all down to how we’ve gone about it and some fans are getting in a frenzy about it all.

He was offered a new deal well before his contract ran out, he chose to be a free agent. Even after his deal expired he was giving fans the impression he was re-signing.
Blame the player theme

Sad if this is true, over 4/5 years (is it) he's not been the worst signing ever, and played his contract out, so he owes us nothing, he never looked more dangerous than he did that night for Swansea against us, but I would say we got value and promotions with him, so let's show a bit of appreciation..

He clearly divides opinion, but Moore was signed and that indicated Oli had chosen to move on..

GLTTL, we've got some wage thieves at the club, he wasn't one..

Hi Stegosaurus here

Amazing how everybody was defending McBarndoor when it seemed he was going to resign and I called him shit. Some posters saying he'd be one of the top strikers in the Championship.

Now he's leaving, he's suddenly shit

I no your a wum and your not even a pig imo. But that is the first sensible thing you have said. Mcburnie is a quality championship player. Make no mistake. So is Bogle. Both top end performers in championship. Very good lads at this level and deep down everyone on here knows it.

Hi Stegosaurus here,

Agreed. I don't rate McBarndoor, I think he is pretty shit--but the fact is, he is/was our top striker. I am surprised people are denying that ... unless they are trying to say Brewster was better? He's perfectly fine in the Championship.

Bogle I did rate. He's not good defensively, but going forward he's very good.

If we paid under 10 million for him, I'd agree. But Swansea proper had our kegs down. He was a panic signing by Wilder. Wilder realised he hadn't got a striker in, his main targets had gone elsewhere so Swansea decided to yank his kegs down, knowing Wilder was in a hole and would pay whatever they demanded.

17.5 million for McBarndoor lol

It seems this is the way the game is going, players sign a contract but are more than happy to leave for free and pocket a sign on fee elsewhere when it expires or starts running down to the last 12 minths. All power to them in many ways, I'd probably do similar, but as fans it means you can never really get attached to a player like you could 10-15 years ago knowing there was a good chance they'd stay for 6 or 7 seasons rather than the length of a single contract. We've seen it with Bogle, McBurnie, Ndiaye et al and suspect it'll be commonplace for years to come. It might even help lower transfer fees in the long run but I wouldn't bank on that.

Who decided not to take the contract offered to him? Or maybe we should've offered him a blank cheque?
Well why bother offering him or anyone else a contract. A club can’t complain if it’s unwilling to offer competitive contracts. What is annoying is that the stock line becomes he won’t sign it, followed by fans response he was shit anyway. Interestingly I wonder if the money saved will be spent on contracts throughout the team as we need at least another 4 players before the start of the season

The point I was obviously trying to make is that the club offered him a contract that they believed was fair and he rejected it, as is his right. Who is to blame in that situation? Surely the player? Anyway, shouldn't you be busy packing for your holiday?😉

went to the game yesterday £45 for a piece of chicken potatoes and cheeseboard (shit one at that). At least their chairman said we are the best they’ve played so far.

The more I think about it the more I think it's a massive slap in the face. He has kept us waiting all summer, pretty much gave the impression to fans on social media on more than one occasion that he was staying, all while still being allowed to train with us. Throw in the fact the club stuck by him during all the shit he caused off the pitch in his early years and his constant fitness issues that pre-date the Hecky shirecliffe sniper injury crisis. We got what out of him? about one seasons worth of games of him actually being fully fit.

The club has played it's part in him leaving but I'd still say he owes us more than we owe him when everything is considered. Yet the reality is he and his agent kept us waiting til a better offer elsewhere landed.

So yeah I can't say I will be wishing him all the best, hopefully he buys enough suncream.
If he was that important to the club then we wouldn’t have waited until he was out of contract.

I’m not concerned about McBurnie personally, just the 15 Championship goals that will need replacing.

Moore scored 7 in 18 games for Ipswich last season which would put him on for 18 goals in a 46 game season.

That’s half the goals our forwards need, we had another 15 and however many assists from Ndiaye in the promotion season as well.

You can not say it's the players fault or the cubs fault ,what is annoying is the situation is allowed to drag on and on leaving the club to find another player along with half a doz more before the season starts . There should be an agreed time limit where each side has the right to pull the plug and move on . Most of the trouble is in my view is the agents who drag the situation on and on ,having a time limit on negotiations might put pressure on them to get a deal done one way or another .

Realistically, a promoted side needs to score at least 75 goals. Moore getting 15 leaves 60 for the rest of the squad. That would need to split down as follows in a 4-2-3-1
10-15 backup strikers
20-25 attacking midfielders
10-15 wingbacks
5-10 DMs
5-10 central defenders

...and a lot would have to be at the top end of those ranges. That said, we were promoted in 2006 with Neil Shipperley top scoring with 11 of our 76 league goals.

It might be assumed the final conversation went something like this,

McB. Gaffer... that's it, I'm not signing!
Wider: What you say?
McB: I'm off. Agent just called and now I'm playing for Las Palmas...
Wilder: Las Palmas! But that's where the fat German lasses go for a shag on the beach? Why do you want to go there, when with us you get to play away at the Sty and win?
McB: Gaffer... where do you want to play away and win. The rust bowl, or at Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao, Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla? It's a top league.
Wilder: Err... you might have a point there Oli. Good luck to you!

I'd think it pretty likely that O'Hare chips in with a solid number of goal involvements this season. Along with that, based on the tactic used in pre-season so far, you'd look at the 2 wide players to make a solid contribution in the way of goals and/or assists. One of the 2 centre mids would probably have license to push foorward and contribute as well, similar to how Arblaster did last night for the 4th goal.

Certainly Ndiaye is a huge miss for the squad. He's the most individually gifted player I've ever seen at the Lane, but it doesn't have to be a single individual that turns up with as big a contribution as he made 2 years ago. Far more likely that those goals will spread out among the whole squad, unless we somehow snap up another player who is as good as Iliman was for us.
