Short estimation from a Werder Bremen fan about Burke: (Sorry for my poor english)

Almost everyone of us was very sceptic, his statistics, weaknesses and and general impressions in his earlier clubs spoke a clear language - supposedly. However, a very optimistic transfer from Werder manager Frank Baumann.

After the first test match, in which Burke scored 2 goals against the second-division team karlsruher sc, it was a big surprise. Despite his goals, his rather weak finishing and weak "first touch" were the topic of discussion, and the subsequent test matches confirmed this.

In contrast to many here, Burke was always perceived as likeable, perhaps also because he is the first Scot ever to play for Werder. Overall, you got the impression that he fits in well with the team, whose great strength this season is its team unity.
It's also worth mentioning that Burke said in an interview that he sees himself as a joker, which is something I've never heard from a player before.

So what can I say, in the first Bundesliga game against wolfsburg, his substitution seemed like a bit of a gag, he couldn't contribute much.
In the next game against stuttgart, he equalised in the last second - another relatively weak finish, but a goal is a goal. It wasn't quite convincing yet, but the mood towards him improved.

Then dortmund, what can i say - werder set a bundesliga record, a victory after being 2 goals down in the 89th minute has never happened before. Burke with the winning goal after an outstanding ball-carrying, tight shot from an acute angle - that was very strong.
In the following game he put on a lot of pressure again after his substitution, but he couldn't save the defeat. At the weekend against Bochum, again many strong actions, the defenders can't cope with his speed. He was also fouled in the penalty area - again in injury time. The following penalty brought the final score to 2:0.

The Bremen fans are thrilled, no one would have thought he would have such an explosion. Nevertheless, he will remain a joker, at least for the time being, because his deficits on the ball are less noticeable against tired opponents; besides, no one can stop a fresh Burke in minute 90.

We are all happy that he is here, this transfer has already paid off for us. He definitely has the potential to become a legend for us, even if there are weaker phases. It's hard to say why he has already shown more in 5 games at Werder than in his entire career before. Of course, it's not yet clear whether this is a short-lived high or whether it's really just a good fit.
Firstly, no need for an apology your English is fantastic. Better than some on here 😅.

Good to hear he is doing well. I am still happy that we got rid of him but equally happy that he seems to be doing well for you. His athleticism was always exciting but it was always his close control and final product that let him down. Sounds like that might be improving slightly.

I think he can probably sense hes at a club where hes more loved and therefore helping him to perform better.

A good transfer for everyone.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that I wish he was still here.

Sometimes a player clicks and he just finds a good home. It sounds like for Burke it could be with yourselves.

I had no issue with Burke in terms of attitude. He always tried and worked hard when he played for us.

For us he joined because we needed pace. But as we played 3-5-2 and he had largely played as a winger in his career, it meant he would need to be deployed as a striker or wingback though we only ever tried him as a striker. His composure, control and finishing were not his strong points and for this reason he was not deemed a success.

In a different formation he'd still have those weaknesses but his strengths night be exploited more frequently in a 4-3-3 or 3-4-3. He's very strong and I think he was the fastest or within the 3 fastest players in the Premier League so as you suggest, against tiring legs he can be a danger, though his ball control can also be a danger too! If he is left to be instinctive then he can be a force for good. He nearly always beats the defender as he's so quick. If he's given complex instructions, it's been commented that he struggles to absorb.

Good luck to you and to him. Hope it works out for you both, you have a good season and us too.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thank you for your post and I’ll just say that your English is a lot better than my German

Hope he continues to do the business for you, although I didn’t realise he also played cricket (joking)

Good to get feedback, I hope he continues to improve for Bremen.

Our football under Wilder wasn't about pace, we hardly had any. It was all about our unique style, the overloads and a team that had really gelled. When that suddenly stopped working we had to look for something else, and Burke was used to offer a threat in behind. But the team wasn't trained to play that way and it looked a bit desperate when we defended in numbers and then gave it to Burke to run at defenders and nobody to pass to.

Any fool could see he wasn't brilliant technically or tactically and he seemed to freeze when in front of goal. Slovanovic also mentioned his lack of confidence. But there are ways to make use of players with such an outstanding attribute, and it's all about putting them in situations where you make use of it. Would be nice if he could build on his good start at Werder Bremen, I wish him well.

Another example of a professional footballer who gets paid more pounds (or Euros I suppose now) in a week than he has brain cells.

I don't mind anyone being confident in themselves and a bit of individuality but this prick takes the piss. So glad he's gone. Another bizarre purchase and it isn't being wise after the event either. At the time we were after him I was thinking 'what the actual fuck'. Piss poor signing. Thanks Chris.

The total non footballer top wanker yep thank fuck head gone embarrassing

It definitely isn't my taste, but I'm not aware that he has ever done anyone any harm. He did OK for us, so I don't bare any grudges towards him.

Not sure anyone bears any grudges against the lad. Though I think alot of fans (me included) think he's a very strange young man with more money than sense. Whilst not hurting anyone isnt it slightly odd behaviour to spend your time getting dressed up an Egyptian Mummy in your spare time. Tutankhamun would be proud. And no doubt the daft prick will have spent a small fortune on the outfit. More money than brain cells.

If he was on the dole, he'd have more money than sense.........

A lot more!

I agree he’s not done any harm…… he has performed shockingly in every appearance for us though and now looks like Rupert the bear after not going on holiday for a few years.

Can't agree with the did ok mate.

He did OK on the same level that Laurent Ten Heauvel did ok.

He's making a good living out of the game, but has had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus and dresses like the neighbour from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation......

I think I had quite low expectations when we got him. I'll rephrase my original comment to, he wasn't our worst player ever! 😆

We had this mantra that we did research on players, personalities etc.

Makes you wonder how thorough that was when we ended up with Mousset who hadn’t completed 90 minutes in years, Robinson who isn’t even a striker, Burke who also isn’t one but is a headless chicken to name but a few.
