Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield Wednesday
Can you hear us on the box?
Can you hear us on the box.....

Aye well, if you'd been at Wrexham in 1988 for our 5-1 FA Cup victory, when the fans were singing it over and over again, you might have a different thought about that. 🤷‍♂️

I was there as I was at Wrexham for our 0-4 defeat on a Tuesday night in 1979
Its still a boring song like the One German Bomber

I know where you’re coming from, but I liken the musical repetition, chord transposition, time signature and key change and gradual building up to a crescendo to Ravel’s Bolero.

Harry Roberts is our friend, is our friend, is our friend,
Harry Roberts is our friend, he kills coppers!
,
Who's that copper with the helmet on,

Dixon, Dixon.
Who's that copper with the helmet on,
Dixon of Dock Green.
On the beat all day, on the wife all night,
Who's that copper with the helmet on, Dixon of Dock Green!

Continuing the police theme,

Rhino whip! (following the infamous national news about Sheffield Police extracting confessions from the Hartley brothers by whipping them with a rhino whip from their lost property office).

"Come over here,
Come over here,
Have a go o oh
Have a go"

&

"Come & av a go if you think your hard enough"

&

"You're going home in a fu##in ambulance"

Those were the days 😁😁😁

Sheffield Quaker’s Society 1969?

One that was a bit topical for the time, went to The Scaffolds Lily the Pink.
We’ll drink a drink a drink to Lily the Pink the Pink the Pink the saviour of ,the human ra- a ace for she invented solphuric Acid and we will throw it in your face. Reference to a Wednesday game. Not a nice thing to happen but hey ho.

A couple from back in the day - late 60's/early - mid 70's.
I love to go a-wandering, if wandering's the thing
I love to go to Hillsboro' just to hear (insert relevant manager's name here- Danny Williams or Derek Dooley) sing
...Oh Ive got a lovely bunch o' dozy cnuts....
😂
In their Liverpool slums ,
In their Liverpool slums
They look in the dustbin for something to eat
They find a dead rat & they think its a treat
In their Liverpool slums

And a particularly harsh one for John Ritchie, who played for the pigs from 1966-1969 & sung to the tune of Grocer Jack (Excerpt from a Teenage Opera) by Keith West 1967 - youngsters you'll have to Google it ;)
John Ritchie, John Ritchie is it true what Wednesday says
Your iron luuuung
Has broken down

Dont ask why 😂

I

In Dublin fair city
Where the girls are so pretty
I once came across young Molly Malone
She wheeled a wheelbarrow through streets broad and narrow
Singing
(clappety clap clappety)
The Blades.
1974
Started a few years earlier that one...around mid-late 60’s. Instead of ‘clapperty clap the Blades’ we sang...
‘M-i
M-i-c
M-i-c-k
Mick Jones!’
Who was out of interest for those who didn’t know, one of the finest CF’s ever to wear a Blades shirt.

Oh we are the Sheffield United
We play in the Red White and black
And we are superb eb
And we shout to the world
Division two we're coming back...
1979..first game of United's first ever 3rd division season.
United won 2 1 v Swindon Town, a Dougie Brown header won it.

Match of the day tune

You've heard of man united
You've heard of liverpool
You've heard of sheff united and were the team that rule
united play great football united play it right
and if you want to disagree theres going to be a fight
