Top thread this.

Sheldon was my pre match haunt and occasionally Matilda... especially on derby day.

When pubs still shut at 3pm had a few seasons where I’d finish in Queens in pond street, sup with “gin and orange” (anyone know him ?) and then we’d get taxi up to Lane about 3.20! Finished Saturday night after doing full sess, only interrupted by match, in Penny Black which was always a bit shit.

Mulberry tavern and Claymore we’re always a bit interesting clientele wise.

Loved Pump around Xmas time as all Freeman’s catalog birds used to do dinner time session midweek and were always in a “friendly” mood !
Phil gin and Orange? Worked as a guard on Northern Rail. Last time I saw him was about 3 years ago ayt Worcester racrs and the year before at Southwell

I was about 19/20early in the early 70s, she looked about 50. The smell of sweat and cheap perfume, Phaawwww.
Is that what attracted her to you?

Was it:

Old Spice?
Hai Karate?
Tabac?
Blue Stratos?
Faberge West?
Or
Brut?

Was Richard Stacey the big set guy with blonde curly hair and a red face. If its the guy Im thinking of he was a great bloke ,actually got on with all the bouncers there Kilby ,Dixey ex Belfast bad boy ,big Joe who followed Beechy everywhere ,had some real experiences and glad they were on our side. Also knew and worked with quite a few from the Limit , Gary green ,Channer ,the Macleans ,Alex was a good friend ,lived on Park Hill flats and drove a yellow Rolls Royce that never got touched even parked at the flats. Trinny was a piece of work when he got heated. the only one I never liked was Cliff Andrews ,pig though. As for West St and Limit being pig territory ,not sure about that ,maybe down to the Beehive but as soon as they got to the Mailcoach that was it.
Cliff Andrews, black fella, built like a brick shithouse, from Park Hill?
Remember when I was in my early 20s, Mark Emson (Hairy) battling with Cliff who was much bigger. Story went Cliff battered Hairy, then Hairy offered to shake his hand but head butted him when they got close. Cliff went wild and Hairy ended up crawling under a taxi to get away.
Moved out to the sticks not long after and lost touch with a lot of people. I know Hairy had a leg amputated but still couldn't give up the smack (etc) and died about 42ish.

Wasn't it Cliff Andrews that ran Northern Soul Nights at Davy's and the Horti in Darnall?

Remember Emsons off wybourn.big cliff was a blade .turned to dark side late 70s.remember him when we were in first division
in 70s with wathol off Hyde Park.

He ran them later at Davy's not the first time. Darnall Libs l think. My mate ran the Horti Nights, not Cliff.

Cliff also ran City Limits with Tony Nasser. I was going to a nighter with them a few years ago, we did a detour to “see” someone who was djing. One of the City’s handbag Northern DJs had been suggesting Cliff was a bit of a “wanker”. He was djing when Cliff walked in and and l swear the music stopped for a second. The bloke was still shaking when we left after an hour of complimentary drinks.

Still have a drink together when we bump into each other.

He was. Turned due to being big mates with Bill. Wendy had a few black lads in their firm from the S2 area until they went down the racist route

I remember Cliff from chatting to him in Samantha's, late 70's. There was Cliff, another lad called Clive, Paul (I think it was Paul), Butcher from Rollestone/Bankwood/Ash Leigh sort of area, another lad who was either nicknamed "Monks" or that was his surname.

Mick McLean from the Limit (doorman) was another lad I used to hang around with.

Scariest Limit Club doorman was (without a doubt), Mick Crich.

Clive Broughton by any chance?

Still see Naz around Mosborough, he's still DJing the Northern soul stuff.

I'm back! (they're not open yet :() I've just finished reading (half of) 'Divide of the Steel City: Blade versus Owl' (well worth around four quid.) The author - Steve Cowens - describes when the police formed a cordon outside a pub and beat the shit out of Unitedites being forced outside. He says it was The Sportsman. Surely The Sheldon?

He also describes The Limit being strongly pro-Wendy. Well, I went in for a few years and it never was.
100% Reyt. It was far more wendy than blades. Always was. And the pub he’s talking about is the sportsman. My mates nephew got prison for it
