Our record against the bottom 4 that season were won 2, lost 6!
Scored 4 v Gillingham at Lane including a goal by Francis Joseph.
1 0 v Aldershot towards end of season on a hot Bank Holiday Monday.
Deane obviously.
David Barnes changed his torn shorts on the edge of the pitch, playing for Aldershot that day.

A controversial game against Everton in the League Cup. Was United's second goal offside? Did Everton's equaliser cross the line?

That season in Division 4 taught me how football could be brilliant fun even if you were in the bottom tier. Great memories.
Just went on to youtube and without typing anything in , Colchester United 5 Sheffield United 2 highlights came up!
One of only 4 defeats of that 4th division season and I was at the game! 4
40 years ago., and I wish I hadn`t been. 3-0 down in 9 minutes.
How were Jimmy Hill and Match of the Day covering a 4th division match? Must have been a quiet day!

Beagrie's acrobatic goal celebration!
I also found our 5-1 defeat at Leeds in 1974. Dearden scoring a consolation and Eddy missed a penalty, but decided against as who really wants to watch that!

Also found a 2-0 home defeat to Millwall in early 1979, pitch was dreadful. Decided not to post for similar reasons including some comical defending with ex Blade Warboys scoring after Kenworthy's attempted clearance rebounds off him into the net.

Warboys didnt play for Millwall. It was John Seasman who scored Millwall's 2nd. He later played for Millers

You're right of course. I'm getting mixed up with another game I watched against Bristol Rovers that we lost 3-2 after being 2-0 up! It was the one where Woody scored that great goal where he bursts past about 3 players and leathers it from the edge of the box. Can't remember the significance of the goal but there was one.

Was it Woodwards 200th goal ?

Broke Doc Pace's post war goal record (think it was 141). Woody's post war record of 157 goals still stands. Two ex-Blades scored all Bristol Rovers goals. Dave Staniforth and Alan Warboys (2)
