Think we are getting rid of the wrong midfielder here in evans obviously no one fancies "lunny" wonder why struggling to see what lundstram. Offers slow always seems isolated like he doesnt know his position Always off the pace. Rarely gets involved in set plays finishing is woeful been here long enough to improve under wilder but going backwards part from. Odd hollywood pass a game im. Seeing nothing. Lets cash in on evans though eh to add to our improved budget!

Given the choice I would certainly prefer to lose Lunny over Evans, who offers much more imo.

Lundstram was just starting to turn the corner when Evans came into the club, I think derby away he looked his best.

He looks slimmer this year he just needs to turn his head on more, but he can pass it sideline to sideline as well as anyone we have.

I feel there is better player in lundstram than Evans, but it’s whether we can get that potential out of him which I am starting to doubt due to his concentration.

He could still do with being fitter which would help

Lundstram is a perfectly adequate midfielder but I feel like he definitely needs a defined role, and can't really stray.

He's got to work on his speed of thought was my main concern last season, but I thought he was fine generally.

Based on the last two performances I would bench Lundstram first, but I still believe there's more potential in him than Evans but I can't explain it.

He doesn't have neither the football brain or fitness levels to play the holding/shielding of the back four role, or the range of passing required, so I fail to see just where he can fit in? Basham has the fitness and mobility, but lacks the football brain and passing ability, this could potentially be a role for either Bryan or Leonard, before the return of Coutts?

Another who needs moving out, if we possibly can.

It’s as much about who clubs want to buy as who we want to sell. I think Evans is a neat, tidy footballer, technically very good, but he’s a negative so and so. I’ve a bit more patience with Lundstram because he’s a young kid learning to step up a grade or two. But he’s not good enough currently for a regular place at this level.

My pre-season thread, “What about the middle?” highlighted this lack of quality in midfield. Fleck, Coutts, Duffy - all very good - but add a Luke Freeman type to that mix and you’d have a different dimension to the team.

Did it last season and I can't be arsed to find the post. It wasn't as bad as that, but compared to starting with Evans the points per game was less and therefore the win stats were less.

Agree with this.
Evans is a safe consistent generally sideways passing player whereas Lundstram is much more dynamic.

He has far more potential that Evans and his style means he tries difficult stuff, tries long range passes etc.
If he starts the match well he generally plays well and sometimes looks one of our best players
However if he gives the ball away early on or makes a bad mistake (which he does too often) then his confidence seems to drop and he can be a liability.

Another issue with both Lundstram and Evans (especially Lundstrum) is that they never seem to score even when they have a decent chance. The number of times Lundstrum makes a great run into the box, hits a first time shot and blasts it just over the bar.

Agree with others, when one plays they tend to do well
But when both are in the same team, they don’t perform as well.
If one had to go, I’d keep Lundstrum and get rid of Evans.

Lundstram featured in 36 league games last season:

17 wins - 47.2%
10 losses - ~27.8%
9 draws - 25%

Worth noting that 10 of those wins were before Coutts got injured

why did CW ALWAYS play Evans before Lundstram in the team?

By all means have Lunny in the team - we won't get above half way if he happens to be a regular.

As usual it's nothing personal - just want us to play top half and challenge for top 6.

There is a player deep inside Lunny. Playing alongside Evans didn't work most of the time. I hope he can now push on and reach his potential.
