apparently 51 people (or 77% of those voting) agreed he should go  UTB

Well done for digging up this time capsule of a thread! There will be one on Barçachat.es somewhere from 2004 decrying the unjustified promotion to the 1st team of some untried kid called Messi.

Sitwell, you've written a load of codswallop about Coutts and we have disagreed. I do agree with you however that Coutts could be employed in a good team in the right role. Unfortunately our squad is nowhere near being able to accommodate a pure footballer (maybe with a bit of an 'attitude') who has just a couple of moves and manouvers, can't run for longer than 5 minutes and certainly can't last 90 minutes even at half pace - something you disputed a few weeks ago and said he finished games stronger than he started them. I also recognise a proper footballer when I see one but I'm afraid even the prima-donna Premier League demands athletes who can run, yes they can get away without tackling and even any physical contact, but it's so hard to place a non-running, non-tackling, non-jumping man who doesn't even want to take the managers instructions, into any team. Otherwise you were right about him.
I take it you've had a look at this thread ?

I'm digging the current trend of revitalising this threads so people can show off.

However, it'd have a lot more validity if these same people could unearth the ones where they themselves were arguing that Coutts is the second coming of Xavi, Leon is Harry Kane's long lost brother and Basham is a poor mans Jamie Carragher...

The first two posters on this thread,i would not give them my snot from a runny nose, mark my words,we hit a bad spell these 2 clowns will be back posting a lot more regular than they do at present.

He`s crap anall, that Duffy, what we signed him for

Why not, give wendy a chance to catch up...................:D

the vote was based on his performances at the time ,even chris wilder had him on the transfer list so I don't see the point of bumping this thread ,
it doesn't prove anything.

he's turned his career round and he deserves the credit he's getting.
There is a massive point though ,just because a player isn't playing well at a certain time many have the knee jerk reaction of getting rid instead of looking at the bigger picture ,seeing the talent a player has and harnessing that talent with other players and systems to form a good side. We take the piss out of Coventry fans and their views on Fleck but its only the same as some of our fans view of Coutts at that time.

Barneys been a very decent contributor for a while now. Had a bad spell under Adkins and lots of people thought he was shit and wanted him out, but he's done very well since. Very much the Paul Coutts of the forum I'd say.

What you mean he still plays long cross field balls out of play?
Can you bump that poll thread please?

It's all good and well bumping this to name and shame the people who are/were wrong but at the time he wasn't pulling his weight.

The Coutts of 15/16 always had the ability but was hampered in my view by:

1. Being in a midfield with Hammond.
2. Being out of shape.

Regards point 2, it was a bit of an attitude issue with him. Not necessarily the "bad" attitude the OP alluded to, but more that he was trying to do enough to get by and not pushing himself to make the most of his talent. I remember reading the below article from March 2016 and being disappointed in this part particularly:

“If you don’t eat the right things you put on body fat and they test it all the time, and if you’re up, you get fined.”

So have you ever been fined?

“I’ve had loads of fines,” he said, laughing at his naughty eating behaviour.

“People come down from Aberdeen to visit and bring me butteries. That kills me.”

After the shock of being listed, I wonder whether he's been fined since? I'd guess not, he looks in great shape now and he is now able to put the performances in the match his talent. Credit to him, he like Freeman knew he was at a crossroads in his career and responded positively when so many others drift out of the game.

I've just voted to get rid. I have no idea who Coutts is but all these people can't be wrong...

He was also recovering from a bad injury under a fucking awful manager.
