Offer in for Brooks...

It never fails to amaze me, the first suggestion of a sale and doom and gloom is accepted as fact.

I can see no evidence of a sale, can anyone else? If any poster has hard, factual evidence, will you please share this information? Otherwise, I'd love to know why a rumour can ignite something that becomes written in tablets of stone? I genuinely thought that most posters had more common-sense than to accept a rumour for anything more than what it is. I wouldn't mind if CW or Kev had been the source for such bollocks, but that's exactly what this is, bollocks. So lads and lasses, will those who've allowed themselves to be taken for a ride do all of us a favour, calm down will ya?

I get why this happens, we've been let down many times before, but for now give it a rest.....please?

Will the overriding factor simply end up being whether Brooks wants the move? Wilder has repeatedly said that he doesn’t want people here that don’t want to be here – wasn’t there a line in one interview of “if anyone wants to go, I’ll help drive them there”, or something similar? That doesn’t mean underselling, but I don’t think Wilder will want to keep Brooks if he wants the move.

Some agent may have said to Wankchester Rovers 'would you take Brooks for £15m?'

If only Wankchester had bought him earlier.

Melchester still had Roy Race who was a great player but losing a bit of pace. At 69 he was the oldest player to have ever played in an FA Cup final and Wankchester could have shaded it with a great young prospect like Brooks.

If they can't get Brooks they should deffo go for Billy the Fish. He's the complete player and has got everything, apart from legs and stuff.

He's the best piscine keeper I've ever seen.

If a club wants to pay £10m for Brooks then they will be offering him 4 years minimum at £20k a week if not more.

The player will take the financial security that that will bring and SUFC will not be able to keep him even if they wanted.

It is a fact of football these days. A sad fact.

If we sell him Wilder will be off. Is McCabe willing to risk this?

If McCabe screws Wilder around he will tell him to lump it. You can tell from the man's character, that's my reading of it anyway.
Yeah maybe.
Depends on what his flouncing threshold is. This is his dream job, he is universally respected, doing well etc.
Would this be enough to send him over the edge - not so sure.

But it's a sad fact that other clubs seem routinely able to deal with & resist pretty well. I'm thinking we were offering Ryan Leonard a fair amount more than he's on at Southend for instance.

Fine, and I wasn't intending to argue, just that I didn't associate the word "timid" with David Brooks, and as I always say, we all see things differently (hence I am always interested in other peoples view of a game, because I can only see it from where I sit in the South Stand).

Quite. Actually I believe the word 'timid' was used by Bynion or somebody similar to describe Brooks when we signed him. Maybe less so on the pitch than in the dressing room.

How much good has it done them? We shouldn't be pointing to Southend as an example of a well run club. They resisted because we didn't make a big offer. If Everton offered £1m for Brooks I'm fairly sure we'd tell them to bollocks.

Which part are you so sure is bollocks?

McCabe and Wilder know that full well. Picture where it would leave the club.

Now or maybe the summer is the time for McCabe anf the Prince to back the manager seriously.

If not a 10 year contract for the manager and his assistant then massive wages.

Proper funding for incoming transfers.

Financially the rewards in the Prem are worth some risk surely.

McCabe is about my age and it's got to be pretty soon Kevin lad, or never at all. Give us all a chance Kev!!!

All our investment plans/ spending plans/ bucket lists/ legacies etc. are right at the forefront of our minds at 70 years old , believe me.

Just one example among a great many though, isn't it? Lenihan at Blackburn as another one close to hand (not that that's necessarily worked out for them, or would have for us, with him being out injured all season).

Can't say I see £10m as being a special fee for him in the current climate & given the vast wealth swilling around. Would far rather the board waited till the summer & reassessed. Clubs know of his raw talent - his value's not going to go down. But, if he progresses with us, we could be looking at much more in the near future (as well as not looking like a dickhead of a club who sell whenever a Big Boy shows the first sign of cosying up to us).

Can you identify where this rumour is based on anything other than hearsay?

I can't, no, as I didn't write it, but I know it'll be well stood-up. What do you know to say so confidently it's bollocks?
(For avoidance of doubt, it's a genuine question - can't be arsed with another slanging match & if you're after one, don't reply)

Daniel, please don't presume I have time to waist chasing you for a straight answer.....so, back to your question. In one sentence you reply that you can't identify this is based on fact, then, in the same sentence you seem adamant that it's more than a rumour. Simply, if you know this to be a fact can you please point to where this is more than hearsay?

The one person rubbing his hands with very little to lose from this story is the Southend chairman.

That’s all Greek to me so let’s leave it, although I’m not adamant about anything :D

I do and that's why I'm offering you advice.

Not sure which camp you are in though!

BTW I'm not Australian or your "mate".

Give it time. I sense the seeds of a beautiful friendship have been sowed :)

Brook or Leanard? no brainer
And fuck the money Wilder would get 10% if hes lucky

Think the thinking there is that Ron will see a possible £10m windfall for United and stick a bit more on his valuation of Lenny.

I was only replying to your equally puzzling question. My first thought was that it was double dutch, but no probs, glad I could help.

If Brooksy goes, I betcha it will be 'undisclosed' and whatever happens:

a. it will be a lot fucking less than we speculate
b. none of it will end up as playing staff money
