I'm thinking there's a few Notre Dame lads on this thread ?

I sat with Trenton's brother a few times in the JSS , wasn't a great season though ( Don Givens related).

I do recal seeing Trenton play for the reserves & he was like lightening, but what I will always remember him for was the away game at Blackpool , when he played as a lone striker , the midfield kept feeding him balls to run onto and he was caught offside a ridiculous number of times , I think it was something like 20 times. We went 2-0 down , and then the one & only time he beat the off side trap he scored! we lost 2-1,

Richard Cadette was the second worst centre forward that United signed from Southend United. The worst was Chris Guthrie. As far as I can remember, United have only signed two centre forwards from Southend.

Trenton Wiggan was like lightening. Seem to remember him playing in the match against Leicester City (1978) where we had to win 9-0 to prevent relegation to Division 3. We drew 2-2, there were numerous pitch invasions and I cannot recall seeing Trenton Wiggan play again

Cadette was definitely the first 'fan' funded player from the Red Ribbon/Revival Fund in 1987. I think BushBlade and Aganarama are right too in that Hodges was part funded by some kind of Grand National raffle around 1990/91, given that he made his debut for us in the rearranged game v Derby County at the end of January 1991 (it was FA Cup 4th Round day) and he crucially scored a last minute winner after Shilton had saved everything up to that point. It was the first win on our run of winning 7 games on the bounce to get us to safety.

And subsequently fell over the advertising hoardings in front of the kop celebrating.

I think you mean Ian Benjamin, I’m sure Wiggan didn’t play until 1979/80

Londonroad you're correct but boy was Guthrie dogshit, on his debut we played at Halifax in league cup won 4-1 he scored 3 god knows how Woody got other IMS. From then on in it was all downhill he couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo, do you remember that other gem Alan Young (sicknote1)

I can remember that match at the Shay. I thought Chris Guthrie was going to be immense for us.
Subsequently he proved to be the only player I've ever seen who could consistently make himself shorter by jumping to head a ball. Go figure!

Just checked, the Leicester relegation match was actually 1979! Both Trenton Wiggan and Ian Benjamin were at Bramall Lane then, but Benjamin was sold after relegation to WBA
Wiggan's debut was in 1980/81. Benjamin did play in our first few games of the 1979/80 season (scored against Swindon in the first league match) before moving to WBA in September

I do remember Alan Young. I thought he was ok, but he was injured alot. Remember him scoring a screamer against Oxford Utd when they were doing well, albeit in Div 3. Think it was a late winner in a 3-2 victory and may even have been a scissor kick/overhead kick?

LondonRoad not so much knocking Young's ability it was the fact he was always injured mate
