Odds Slashed on Speed for next Wales Manager

I hope you're right.

I hate it when managers leave before I've decided that, having initially welcomed their appointment, I don't like them after all and go and stand in the car park at bramall lane waving my shoes in the air and shouting up at the directors' lounge telling them to fire him.

You welcomed the appointment of Nobson??

Really????

Even if Speed has no intention of going to Wales he would be mad to say so.

On the brink of the transfer window at a club that has made it clear we are hoisiting up the white flag off the pitch - surely he's going to use it to try and get some guarantees of at least a few quid to spend.

It's hardly a great career move for him but I wonder if going to Wales would buy him a bit more time to settle in as a manager in a less pressured day-to-day role with low expectations and of course avoid having a possible relegation or a sacking so soon on his managerial CV.

It's possible that he had no intention of taking the Wales job a few weeks ago but perhaps following the recent financial statements by United and perhaps what he has been told behind the scenes by the board, that the FAW have been alerted (indirectly) to the fact that he may now take it. Hence the very sudden major link of him to the job and slashing of odds.

If he does go, the major requirement for the new man will be to be a 'yes man' to the board given the constraints he will be told to work with.

Mickey Adams please as a replacement.

Seconded. For the current condition of the club, the budget available etc, I can't think of a better candidate. People will of course no doubt want another candidate, but at the end of the day, we cant afford one.

I've put this on the other thread under Rumours but I'll put it on here also because My mind won't differ. I'm hoping he does stay but that depends on the Board and whether they give him funds to strengthen next month:

It'll be a temporary until after Xmas, probably Pembo (if he doesn't leave with Speed to be his assistant at Wales). Failing that, I can see Ronny Reid taking the reins until the interview processes are done.

Likely Candidates, for me, are:

Micky Adams
Tony Adams
Phil Parkinson
David Holdsworth (which would be my bet)
Chris Morgan
Chris Wilder
Craig Short
Shaun Murphy
Lucketti
Neil Shipperley

What we have to remember is, we are no longer 1 of the big boys, we are an average club, with average Players with an over inflated ambition/ego. When the fans stop saying, not good enough him and not fit to wear the shirt the other then we will have come back down to our level.

We have an awful name in football now after our crying to the authorities over this, that and the other. Bad losers and Players as well as Managers will look at this and not bother with us. We are Cheap and Nasty and nothing will change until the powers that have literally crippled this club GO!

Ron Reid has nothing to do with us anymore and pembo will remain as academy manager even if speed did leave. Don't think they had any connection prior to working for us

Changed a bit from this Kopped

He's left the club virtually debt free and some are wanting an explanation for this?

Not being funny guys, what do you actually want? Transparent or clouded deception... Your choice

Why the change of heart?

I'm feeling well deflated right now Raul.

1 of the things that left me feeling poitive and confident was the insistence that it was TB, GS and JP running the club, all football men.

Now if we was to lose 1 maybe 2 of these next week say. That would put a huge hole in our set up for the busiest period of the season. And send the club further backwards.

With GS's odds still at 1/3 at sky bet after 2 days and nothing concrete coming from within the club from CEO to Manager and news on the Grapevine that Speed has been granted permission to speak to the WFA from Monday. I feel deflated worried and upset.

I fear for what is happening and what potentially could happen to the Club I support.

I'm quite Gutted at the mo tbh

Cheers Kopped. Events have yet to fully play out obviously, but it's potentially a case of different lips - same lies. The only thing left is the goodwill of the majority (still) of the fans. I hope they start to cherish it a bit more.

With a record of 6 wins in 17 games ,the team scoring only 19 in the league - fewer than any other Championship team.
Why would the club not turn down a good compensation deal for Speed.

I think it's fair to say his tenure hasn't exactly been a rousing success, but equally it's also very fair to say that he's hardly been given a fair crack of the whip either.

i've no doubt whatsoever that if wales offer a big enough compensation package the club will accept. It's the Blades Way :)

Just been on RS that SUFC have agreed a £1M compensation package should GS take the job. :(

Woo! Only 5x that and we're breaking even for the year! ;)

But seriously, I would have said Speed might prefer to stay, but would we have bothered agreeing compo if that was the case?

What's to stay for? He can't improve the exisitng squad and he wont be allowed to bring in anyone better. One managerial career bust before it starts. Take the Wales job and he can re-commence his Sky work too.

How many managers have the budget to spend significantly? Speed has a darn difficult job but there's nowt worse than Steve Bruce types who demand money or they walk.

For fucks sake, snatch their hands off and spend it on someone with experience of making silk purses out of sows ears.

Arise again Sir Neil......

Why would the Welsh FA pay a million for Speed when Chris Coleman is more experienced and costs nothing in compensation?

Can't see the friendly generating a million in gate receipts.
