O’Hare

Dropping him at Leeds would have been sensible - O'Hare is never a player for a scrap , far too easily brushed off the ball.
Sadly we can all see this with our eyes…He simply isn’t up the task in the all important No10 position. Especially when a player of Hamer’s ability is languishing out on the wing.

He's made a decent start for us - it can't be easy arriving at a new club, playing a new system, with new teammates and a lot of expectation on your shoulders.

If anything, I think he needs to spend more time in the gym - he's lightweight and needs to be able to hold onto the ball when challenged. If this is true in the Championship, its a given in the Premiership.

He's been ok and has been a key part of a team that's performed way better than most of us expected before a ball was kicked. However, given the excitement of signing him vs what he's delivered, I'd hope that there was a bit more in the tank.

I'd sooner see Hamer nearer the action though and go with Brooks down one side and JRS down the other if we did give O'Hare a rest.

Exactly this. Madness he started over JRS, even with that formation. Couldn't believe he came out for the second half.

Where? I searched before I started one. Couldn’t see anything directly related to O’Hare’s performances. Point it out please and ask to get it merged. If not then shut the fuck up!
There's a thread called "Callum O'Hare" which is clue number 1.

But I'll just shut the fuck up I suppose 😂👍😊

I've made the point in games prior to Friday that O'Hare has been ineffective. He seems to just disappear a lot of the time, which is something that can happen to players in that #10 role/position, but it's happening with alarming regularity.

I felt that he, and the team as a whole, would benefit far more from swapping O'Hare and Hamer around positionally. Hamer is a central midfielder, of that there is no doubt. He's much more of a complete package than O'Hare, and so would be much more effective if played centrally. His passing is better, he's more willing to have a shot, and his movement off the ball is better as well. Hamer would almost certainly link up with Moore better too, which then can lead to improved performances for Moore to boot.

O'Hare seems to just drift around, looking for space where there is none, and is overly keen on just having a kickabout with his best mate Hamer. He's meant to be a focal point of the attack in the central position, yet when he gets the ball, I expect nothing, and I'm still disappointed.

While I think he could be performing better, I think part of his poor performances is a tactical problem. Every team is playing with at least one defensive midfielder, and the combination of midfielders closing in from behind him, and the defence pushing up in front, means he is repeatedly being left with nowhere to go. Hamer would handle this better were he in the middle, and if O'Hare were to play off the left instead, he'd have more space to work with, and would be more free to make some penetrative runs in behind, which is a large part of what made him so successful for Coventry. He was able to get behind the defence as a whole, or isolate one individual. He's struggling to do that now because he's being asked to play in the most congested area of the pitch.

There is one i can see at the moment still live and read soon after the game on Friday. You are one crazy blade

hamers best position has been sacrificed to accomodate o'hare in to the side and it just hasnt worked and definetly time for a rethink o'hare needs leaving out for these 2 games and bring jrs and brooks back in to the starting 11 although do think o'hare is better suited playing a free role behind a front 2 rather than the supporting striker role wilder is asking him to play

Was so hoping for a Mark Duffy type of player, who used to run at defenders with the ball into the box. Unfortunately O’Hare does seem a little bit lightweight.
I do wonder where Wilder intended to play him, as the No10 role doesn’t really seem to suit him.

O'Hare is slower than I thought. Most of his dribbles have been unsuccessful and defenders regularly beats him in sprints. I think his confidence has taken a knock and he's now reluctant to take players on.

Both him and Moore lacking pace is a problem for us.

Wilder has been hoping he'd gain confidence and form by playing, but it's not happened yet. Of course we can hope there'll be a game soon where things finally click for him, but personally I'd try to use him from the bench now.

In that case, put Louis Marsh in there. Designed for the role and a full on Blade too.

Put O’Hare on the bench so he can see what’s expected of him?

I don’t feel I’m setting myself up as some sort of master tactician here in suggesting, when fit, why don’t we just swap Hamer and O’Hare around.

Hamer is all action and likes to get into the physical side of things. To me that makes him far more suitable to play centrally, plus he’s our best player. You want him on the ball as much as possible.

O’Hare seems to enjoy the freedom to drift around and flit from wide to central. He’d seem far better in an inverted wide role where he can drift in angling into the penalty area.

In reality the 3 behind the striker should all be interchangeable, especially in-game.

Leeds do it really well and drag defenders out of position constantly.

Marshy lacks a bit of pace as well but he has all the attributes to be a number 10 ! Really good football brain ! reads the game really well.
It's whether he can cope with the physicality of championship football yet as he is still a bit lightweight . Worth a punt as nothing coming through O'Hare, being benched might just give him a push to win a shirt back.

He's been crap but Wilder will persist with him as he is stubborn

I think that's a bit harsh. His goal involvements have been beyond disappointing, rather like Moore. But they are both working their bollocks off and doing other things well.

The problem is that they haven't forged any kind of understanding as a forward pairing. We have got away with that in the 4-2-3-1 as there has been plenty of support coming from midfield. Take that away, as Wilder did on Friday and they looked even more exposed.

All that being said, I wouldn't be averse to him being benched for a couple of games and us trying something different with the attack.

I can’t disagree. I was so excited when we’d captured O’Hares signature in the summer, he was supposed to be the icing on the Wilder cake. But I think it’s this that makes his less than impressive start to the season all the more disappointing…Maybe we should have tempered our expectations a little bit.

It’s a superb ball at the end but in the seniors that loose touch on 7 seconds would have lost the ball. He gets away with it at U21 level.

He's far far from crap. And he's one of the main reasons we have 20pts so far, his pressing from the front is as good as any pressing you see and must not be underestimated. It enables us to get up the pitch and rushes their goalie.

Didn't have a great at Leeds who did apart from Vini?

Drop him for Marsh or Brewster - what insanity is that FFS.

For me revert back to what wasn't broke- change Vini for Peck - give it a go tonight- might lose but hey ho doing better than most thought anyway.

Leave O Hare where he is.

O'Hare was brought in as a starter! I can't see that changing.
I don't see Wilder playing both Peck and Blaster tonight either, hope I'm wrong!
Maybe he brings Campbell or Brewster in and re-jigs a little.

O'Hare did play on the left vs Luton. Brewster played centrally behind Moore.

Worth a try, and even if it doesn't work out with Marsh, we may find out if coming on as sub against tiring defender can help kick start O'Hare's season.

Making too many changes also tends not to work for us. If we have a few enforced, we’re probably just as well keeping him there for now.

Totally agree- I think Chris has done a fantastic job this season - but he over thought the Leeds match - it's not even being clever after the fact- when most folk saw Shackleton and RND at 7pm Friday - their immediate thoughts were WTF?

Awful signing who seems to get worse each match. What was the point of playing him tonight?

O’Hare reminds me of an off form Grealish - ball gets caught under his feet too much for a number 10, falls over, not fast enough for the wing, goes missing for long periods. I’m not saying O’Hare wont come good but it’s not happening for him at the moment and he needs benching.

Thought RND played well and made a difference
