Warnock coy over striker move Fri, Aug 04 2006 10:51

Blades boss Neil Warnock would neither confirm or deny an interest in Preston's David Nugent when quizzed about the striker.
Preston claim he will not be sold, but the list of clubs said to be interested in the player gets longer by the day, yet Warnock has refused to say whether the Blades are keen.

Warnock, when quizzed by reporters about a move, said: "Well you'll have to keep your eyes on those sources. I won't comment on any speculation. Nugent is obviously a very wanted player."

Preston manager Paul Simpson has repeated that the player is not for sale to anyone and that North End are not in a position where they have to accept bids for the England Under-21 international.

He said: "We're in the fortunate position we don't have to accept bids for him. If anybody does come in with money, we can turn it down and keep him here."

Lets get a creative midfielder instead then warnock.

yeah i think he's a good player but also like joel said quite abit like hulse lol...and yeah if he does only want 5 players whose he going to get rid of

no thanks i heard that everton were in for him at around the 4 million mark before they got johnson

plus i think a creative midfielder should be a priority and for that price can get a quality midfielder

has any one heard about us signing dave nugent or is it just me because ive heard that were meant to be getting him from preston wb?

Have a look round the sections (rumour mill) mackay and you'll see some posts on the subject.

Cool decent striker although still rather we be intrested in a midfielder.

I'm sure we are but the lazy journo's don't know who so they just dig up some old stuff that may have some mileage.

A Middlesbrough fan at work says they've had an offer of £7 million... can't say I've read it anywhere but maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

We all know that gentlemens' agreements can be broken though.

You can tell I wasn't doing much work today... just talking football with the chefs :D

Think he may be living in cloud cuckoo land Linz.

Nobody will pay £7 million for him, its that simple

Not sure, Wigan have been quoted as going in at 5M!!

If a £5 million offer came in for Nuggent, no way would they be turned away.

You compare it to more prolific strikers in say anelka £7 mill was it? Johnson £8 Million.... and both these was considered high amounts.

Nugent is not very prolific in front of goal, but there is no doubting he has great potential.

Sheffield Utd to try again for Preston's Nugent
tribalfooball.com - March 12, 2007

Sheffield United are sure to bid for Preston North End striker David Nugent in the summer.

The Sheffield Star says the England under-21 international was Neil Warnock's top target during the January transfer window before a combination of the Championship club's promotion ambitions and a £6 million valuation prompted the United manager to look elsewhere.

However, sources at Deepdale have indicated they will almost certainly have to part company with their prized asset should they fail to join Warnock's side in the Premiership next term; a prospect which became increasingly likely when they were beaten 2-0 by Hull City on Saturday.

Although they refuse to comment on the matter publicly, privately Preston admit retaining Nugent's services would be an impossible task if promotion again proves elusive, with the player making no secret of his determination to forge a career in the top-flight.

"If the chairman and the manager get offers, they will either reject them or accept them," Nugent said recently. "But I'm happy at Preston and want to get them to the Premiership. At the very least I'd like to stop to the end of the season."

Hope we do go back in for him.

Quality striker.

My opinion of him has steadily but sharply escalated throughout the course of this season and I wouldn't have a problem with us throwing 4 or 5 million at him TBH, especially taking into consideration his age.

If Everton go in for him then he'll go there for sure, as well as probably being able to throw more money at him, Nugent is indeed an Everton fan.
