Warnock coy over striker move Fri, Aug 04 2006 10:51
Blades boss Neil Warnock would neither confirm or deny an interest in Preston's David Nugent when quizzed about the striker.
Preston claim he will not be sold, but the list of clubs said to be interested in the player gets longer by the day, yet Warnock has refused to say whether the Blades are keen.
Warnock, when quizzed by reporters about a move, said: "Well you'll have to keep your eyes on those sources. I won't comment on any speculation. Nugent is obviously a very wanted player."
Preston manager Paul Simpson has repeated that the player is not for sale to anyone and that North End are not in a position where they have to accept bids for the England Under-21 international.
He said: "We're in the fortunate position we don't have to accept bids for him. If anybody does come in with money, we can turn it down and keep him here."

Sheffield Utd to try again for Preston's Nugent
tribalfooball.com - March 12, 2007
Sheffield United are sure to bid for Preston North End striker David Nugent in the summer.
The Sheffield Star says the England under-21 international was Neil Warnock's top target during the January transfer window before a combination of the Championship club's promotion ambitions and a £6 million valuation prompted the United manager to look elsewhere.
However, sources at Deepdale have indicated they will almost certainly have to part company with their prized asset should they fail to join Warnock's side in the Premiership next term; a prospect which became increasingly likely when they were beaten 2-0 by Hull City on Saturday.
Although they refuse to comment on the matter publicly, privately Preston admit retaining Nugent's services would be an impossible task if promotion again proves elusive, with the player making no secret of his determination to forge a career in the top-flight.
"If the chairman and the manager get offers, they will either reject them or accept them," Nugent said recently. "But I'm happy at Preston and want to get them to the Premiership. At the very least I'd like to stop to the end of the season."
In the games I've seen him playing for Preston on the TV, he's looked incredible, amazing skill and a cool calm finisher.Hope we do go back in for him.
Quality striker.
