Novemeber - 3 months into this season - the month we all, including the manager, realised we weren't good enough. The manager hinted he would like to play 4-4-2.
The manager submitted his bail out proposals to the Board who agreed to back him big time - pay whatever is needed to sign Brayford ( £1.7m?), sign O'Grady plus Coutts and Freeman.
Trouble is we couldn't sign anybody until January and even then it took an age. Cardiff couldn't say "no" any more because the money got silly. Unfortunately Brighton changed managers and suddenly C.O'G was needed there.
Then we threw big, big money at Rochdale to sign Done as a desperate late signing.
All in all, with all that extra cash our Head Scout didn't really have to venture far from his usual comfort zones, the usual 3 ex-Derby players out of 4. Brayford and Done are two very good players but we paid big money for them, that's dead easy. How about unearthing some real value game-changers for bargain fees, just to complement all the journeymen, lightweight look-alikes he's lined up for us?
November we were rubbish. We spent a load of money and we are still rubbish and we still rarely trouble opposition keepers, we're still huffing and puffing without creating many scoring chances.
After January we signed another ex-Derby player, from Blackpool as it happens. Same old from Simon.
